The question was posed in the Forestry Forum's birthday thread of how many people have been here over 7 years. I figured a Poll would better then citing stats. :) So how much of the 9 years so far have you been around and how long did you lurk before you joined?
I joined on march 11 2003 over 61/2 years ago just so I could ask a question. I liked it so much that I stayed! :D
8 years and 63 days where I am right now, one day less back at home. I didn't really lurk much before joining as much as I did for the first 6 or 7 years after. Been trying to make up for it since then. Just had to break out of my shell.
January of 2006 for me; only 3-1/2 years. Sure seems like longer though; I have really enjoyed this site and it's members.
Scott
Five years for me! 8)
Jan 2005 for me. so over 4 years. I couldn't believe it's been that long.
April 24, 2001, 06:17:11 AM Wow!!
Just a little over 3 years. I joined as soon as I saw this place. found it from an article by tom and Bibby in the woodmizer magazine. Have personally met a few members, hope to meet many more.
Almost two years, learned enough for a lifetime
03 February 2003, 20:27:55
Not long enough! Less than a year.
Becoming a member of FF should be a college requirement for all those in the forestry/biology/ag majors.
And mandatory for all first time sawmill buyers (or builders). ;D
Sawmill manufacturers should use this place as a marketing tool-
"With your new sawmill comes free membership to Forestry Forum!"
Feb 2002
7 years, and nearly 7 months
I just turned 5
4 years the 29th of this month.
Since June 22, 2001, 01:27:31 PM. Invited to join by my brother Tom. He regrets it now. ;D
Almost 8 years. I didn't have much to say for a while, though. :P
One more month and it will be eight years. What a ride! 8) 8)

Over 9 years and I have to say I have met a lot of very nice people. I am very glad Jeff had the thought to create a place like this. ;D

Just over 5.5 for me.
Bruce
Will be 3 years in November for me.
I don't own a mill yet but that is down the road for sure,
I'm not a logger but have 69 acres of trees to take care of,
I'm not a woodsmith or builder but with the great help from all of you I managed to build a nice house amoungst my trees,
I look forward to all the posts so I can learn not only about forestry and logging but your views opinions and life in general.
This is my all time favorite place to be on the web.
I was reading in the forum history where it was planned to be only about forestry and loggers. I'm glad that has changed so people like me are allowed in :) I Apoligize to those that put up with my sometime dumb questions.
Thank all of you for your help, wisdom, and insights.
Thank you Jeff for starting this great place with great people!
July 22, 2002.

April 2005 Found this site from the other side of the fence. Because my father bought me a sawmill and I needed to find out how to run it.

And you even met me once! ;)
In all seriousness, I belong to a hand full of forums and this one by far is the most civilized. For this, I am very grateful to all the hard work by those who guard the spirit of this forum.

Lurked for 2 months give or take.
1 pig roast.
Lots of friends!
Only one censure that I can recall :-[
December 21, 2007. I Lurked a long time before joining, I think at least a couple years or so. Shouldn't have waited, but better late than never. This is by far the best forum I have seen.
One year ago yesterday....Thanks for all the help...This is the only forum I am on and the only one I want to be on...I am a better sawyer for knowing you folks...Tim
A short while.
January 24, 2002, 04:38:53 PM

2/14/2002....I think my wife would kill me if she knew I wasn't devoting my energies to Valentines day that day.
Also, same month and year as Beenthere (who has contributed much more here)
I joined almost as soon as I found the FF, but I think it was 3 years before my first post. (I type REALLY slow!!) ;D
July 13, 2007, so just over 2 years. I lurked for maybe a month before joining? I can't believe 2 years flew by already!
4 years 260 days. Gee time flys when you're havin fun
Just shy of 5 years since I joined. I was a guest lurked for several months before that.
A Wood-Mizer article sent me to the "wood doc's" site; after a bit I noticed that some guy named "Tom" had a lot of sensible stuff to say (more so than many posters over there). So one day I followed him home and one of the links on his site sent me here. Haven't been to that other place since.
Just over five years, but didn't participate much at first. I think about three years "active". Now it seems like home. ;)
Mark
If you want to really see how nice this place is go to FishUSA forums and read some of the posts there. Sorry don't know how to make a link to it.

maybe about a year at a guess...
I will have been a member for three years in October. Someday I hope to have a sawmill.
Sept. 10, 2000 seems like only yesterday
March 28, 2006
I have learned tons!!
I joined three years ago in the middle of the Hancock Shaker Village Timber Frame workshop. Yesterday was the end of the '09 workshop. You can all blame Jim Rogers for three long years of putting up with my sillyness. :D I was a lurker before that for a bit.
I had to look it up in my profile.

Well, If I had not "lurked" for 3-4 years...... ;)
Almost one year.
March 6, 2005
I lurked for about a month. When my offer to purchase was accepted on my woodlot I knew I was committed - or should have been committed ???

Guess dat makes you an old fart here then eh eh ;D
Yup, but I noticed that a few of us have the same sign on day and time. I think Jeff saved up on us to make a bigger splash.
I think I was one of the first five or ten, but I am old, and can hardly remember yesterday.
You would be member No.7 ;)
I got sucked in over 5 years ago, that Jeff and Tom where pulling on both arms real good. I fought and lost. :D
I was searching for such a forum on forestry for a long time, finally found my place. ;D
I signed up Feb '03 after lurking for a few months.
It seems that I have less time now to do the forestry related stuff, but still enjoy being in the timber and always am finding good info on here about a wide range of subjects.

Man, it's been a busy summer! I was gone for about six weeks, traveling all over the place, which was fantastic, but the rest of the time, I was one of the lead negotiators for our contract talks with our Management. That was a full time job! I was looking at around a 25% cut...we fought tooth and nail to get it to a little less than 15%, which isn't bad in this economy. That just wrapped up about a week ago, thankfully! It'll be nice to get back to a fairly normal life again...but we'll probably be doing it all again in another year.
The best thing I did this summer was take a class in learning how to build a brick oven...far more fun than doing contract talks!
Good to have you back.
Hopefully we will get a good detailed update on the brick oven soon.
A brick oven , cool , when is the built schedualed for ???
You don't have can't remember listed. Steve
Steve, you've been here since May 2003. That's over six years. It's in your profile. :)
December 11, 2001
It's been so long I don't even think lurk was a word yet.
;D
I joined right after we bought our 20 acres and I realized I didn't know much about a forest. Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate all the members great advice, info and knowledge. I would have made far more mistakes than I have if not for the FF members.
My next goal is to attend a pig roast!
All of about 10 minutes!
Nov. '04 Imerc mentioned this place over on Breaktime so I took a look.
May 23, 2008, 12:45:35 PM
I registered before I could even begin to lurk!
The guys at Hannibal, NY Wood-Mizer tipped me off to the Forestry Forum.
Registered shortly after I bought my mill!
I've really learned a lot from you other members and I hope I have been able to help at least one of you!
You're a great bunch!

Haven't heard about that brick oven. How is it going? And how is your "fairly normal life" ?
November 29, 2004, 05:18:55 PM. I think I lurked around a year or so before joining :-)
I never really lurked so much as popped in from time to time. Hubs talks so fondly of all of you it made me want to be more active on here :)
I like that it's a wholesome group and so full of wisdom. Never too old to learn new things!
Welcome aboard! This is a good place to hang out if you don't mind the good natured ribbing. ;D I just looked at my profile, I've been here almost 18 years! Wow, time does fly!
