I am 32 years old and am trying again this year to grow a beard. :D. For deer season just for fun. Its been 2 weeks and my question is how long does it take for it to stop itching. I havent been able to before cause of lack of hair growth. And the fact that it sarted to itch so bad. I am going to try and tough it out this year. If i can last. ;D The good part of not growing as fast is i dont have to shave as much as most fellers do.
Take some rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball and rub it in.
It will burn some but the itching will lessen greatly.
Hold your nose during this process. ;)
I haven't shaved in at least ten years... Just mow it down
every few weeks. Easy upkeep...
My beard grows pretty fast and I've tried to put one on the last 2 winters. However, about a week in, it starts itching real bad and I don't like how it feels on my face. So I shave it all off and breath a huge sigh of relief. :) Sure is nice to have a beard at -50 degrees, though. Nothing else warmer for your face.
Well Scottar i know to look for a feller with a beard if i ever make it down your work.
Then, when you get used to it it'll probably itch when you shave it off. :D My whiskers seem to grow 1/16" a day, sure don't take long to look scruffy. ;D
I guess you fellas couldn't stand heavy wool long johns then eh? :D
I last shaved July 3rd 1975, the day before uncle sam said I could go home. I don't recall it itiching, but may have just forgotten. I had to promise my wife before we got married that I would never shave, she had seen old pictures and said that did not work for her. (sad truth is "I be ugly") :D Being able to grow a full beard was my constalation for missing out in the looks department. ::)
Its been 2 weeks and my question is how long does it take for it to stop itching.
Your almost there. I grow a beard every year for hunting season & it's usually about 3 weeks before it stops itching.
jim
My face hasn't been seen since 1982. I don't think we want to look now. :o :D
I second the 3 week mark.
I do the same as Scott. Never really shave just mow it off when it gets long enough to bug me in the summer. During winter I shave it when the guy looking back at me in the mirror is unrecognizable. :D
I go back & forth a lot, at least 2 or 3 times a year. mine usually only takes a few days to stop itching if at all itching. I hate shaving as my beard/hair grows very fast... In military I had to shave 2 times a day to keep from getting yelled at/in trouble for NOT shaving :( :D like others after I got out it grew in and most of the time I have one. last year though I took an office job which I had to go back to shaving often. winter is a relief as I can grow in a beard and no one seems to notice. it is back at the moment and will be trimmed quite often to keep it looking good.
mark ::)
Believe it or not, I am currently growing. It's finally getting thick. I haven't had trouble with it itching though, I do trim it every week or so to get rid of those extra-long stray hairs.
Well your at that age anyway. Any time after 13 or 14. Just hope ya don't go smooth on top by aged 27. :D I knew one fellow who went smooth by 19. ;)
I usally grow a Nathan Bedford Forrest style beard in the winter but it's gotta go in the summer. I can't stand the itching on my neck with a full beard, It doesn't really itch on my face. My girlfriend hates it when I shave it off in the spring. (maybe I is ugly like the treefarmer) :( :D
I started mine 2 summers ago while i was working on a backcountry trail crew. I didn't feel like shaving off a weeks growth every weekend, so I let it go, and I havent shaved since then. I got alot of funny looks my senior year of basketball and baseball though, guess I looked a little old ::). I honestly dont remember how long it took for the itching to go away though.
celliott, I am in the same boat, everyone thinks I'm a teacher with a beard. :D
tyb, celliot, that is awesome. My beard wasn't near thick enough at that age but if it had been, I soooo would have grown one out just for the funny looks. ;D smiley_christmas Hmmmm. We need a bearded smiley w/o the santa hat.
Yeah, I always enjoyed the comments.
A word of advice though, if you are new to growing a beard- stay away from peanut butter and marshmallow smores! :D
Sound advice, that! LOL
BBQ sauce can get a little messy too.

Well i dont like peanut butter and had smores 2 weeks ago so i am in good shape.
On my "Forestry Display" thread you notice that I now have whiskers. I really can't grow a beard, so I just quit shaving every year on August 15th. I'll cut it off when I get back from Colorado around the end of October.
The itching ends in about 2 weeks when the whisker "ends" turn away from your skin...... :D
I had to get hair cut, cus at work the bald guys were complaining.
After hair cut, beard looked terrible, so had to trim back a little and disturbed a nest of flying squrrels. fly_smiley.
wonder when they moved in.. ???.
JJ
Those bearded high schoolers will definately catch your attention :D When I graduated I could barely grow a pinstripe moustache :)
I can't remember how long the itching lasts.
Last time I tried to grow a beard was in December 1972. It looked pretty scruffy. Still does ;D.
I am 28 and have beard since half a year back. When I shaved my skin itched all the time but after I had had the beard for about two moths the itching was gone.
I wish I had grown a beard yeras back and saved some hours of sctratching.....and spent those hours woodworking;)
mind over matter...
the more ya scratch...
the more ya itch...
A couple of weeks , then it is comfortable. I dont remember when I first started having a beard it is a long time ago , but I do remember having to shave it in the middle of Febuary one time and that was not pleasing at all .... man was that cold on the face :o Skin get tender under all that insulation .... :-\
From 2006 hunting season. Started in Early September and removed in early December by overwhelming demand. There was something said about sadam and a spider hole. :D

one of about 3 times I've been barefaced since 1968
It itches a bit when growing it because the hair touches
your face and other hairs. Usually a couple of weeks.
It hurts when you cut it off 'cause your face is so sensitive.
You get razor burn, sunburn and wonder who it is in the mirror. :-\
And still hair on the top. 8) 8)
Who's the handsome young man in the red shirt ??? ;D
I think Tom just done that in protest. It was either give up that ham DanG makes him on occassion, or the beard. :D
Tom i think you need to change your avatar looking like that. :o
I can sure see Charlie in there too,y'all could be brothers :D
That little whippersnapper!
I was the first out of the chute and took most of the good stuff, but I left him enough that he could be cute. :D
I should email him and ask him to weigh in here ;)
Ever notice that Tom wears glasses? He can't see! He ain't nearsighted He is near blind! That's why he thinks he's good looking.....He can't see! I think Tom knows how ugly he really is cause if you noticed he tries to cover up his face with a beard. All the wimmenz tell me to keep clean shaved so they can see a truly handsome man. Tom may be ugly but his stupidity makes up for it. :D Mom told me once that she had me so I could take care of Tom 'cause he just wouldn't make it on his own. I've tried but he makes it tough.
LOL

Hey, Tom, no nudity. This is a family website. ;D ;D
Tom how long are you going to last till you start growing it back? Are you fealing naked without it?
I already grew it back. That didn't last but about a week. Nobody knew me. Wife kept locking me out of the house. :-\
It's bad when your own dog bites you.... :D
Twenty or so years I cut off the beard I had had for all of my youngest son's life. Even though he watched me remove it, it took days before he'd come near me. The one I have now is about 10 years old.A little afraid to see whats under there now, Its been a tough ten years!!
I currently wear a goatee. I shave my side burns. But I am gonna let it grow for deer season. I have to shave everyday to stay clean shaven.
Well i gave up and shaved. It was just not comeing in thick enough. I could not take looking like that. I will try again next year. Maybe when i am 33 years old. Probly be gray with my luck.
Not everyone's beard comes in full and it is a common misnomer that beards are grown only to avoid shaving. Men with beards will usually shave every day or every third day to keep the edges trimmed or to keep a certain design. Many of the designs are controlled by the thickness of the beard and where it grows. That makes having a beard fun, and the reason that some wear full beards, side burns, goatees or mustaches.
When I was living in Corporate America, I shaved and trimmed my beard every morning. Now I'm not so disciplined.
I don't know what women do with their beards. :-\
QuoteI don't know what women do with their beards.
They join the circus and make money showing off their beards.
Tom , hum , well , I grow mine to avoid having to shave. I do trim it when it gets in the way of eating . ::)
I'm back from Colorado, so it's time. I quit shaving on the 15th of August each year and cut it off after my Colorado trip.
Here's looking at myself in the mirror.

Put it back!! Put it back!! :D
Handsome Feller smiley_old_guy ;D
It gets to be a major, life changing decision, to cut off a beard. I have to do it now and again just to see who I am, but I have trouble cutting it all off in one fell swoop, like that. Maybe if I had a handsome face like that it would be different, but I have to close my eyes and peak out of the corner of a squint, or I would run.
I can't help but play a little too. I end up with side burns, then a goatee, then just a mustache, then just half of a mustache..... the last time, I got rid of my hair too. It was funny. I had a mohawk for a few minutes and even a 'Mr. T'.
I've got to get me one of those electric razors. Maybe it would keep me from being all red faced for 3 days.
That first picture is a handsome one, Magicman. You look just like someone who would be roaming the outback of Colorado, Hat and all. That's a might fine looking hat too, by the way.
I like the hat, too. As for his looks with or without a beard, I'll leave that to the ladies to comment on. LOL
HAT. I'm really glad to hear those coments about the hat. I bought that old hat in '73. It has now made 30 trips to Colorado and Wyoming. It's on it's third sweat band, and who knows how many hatbands. What's on it now is a combination of many. Grouse and turkey feathers, Copperhead skin, horse hair, and whatever else. The back is curled up so that I can lean against a tree and keep it on. That's a horse's butt pin in front.... :)
I've now bagged it up until next year..... :D
For a 1/2 inch incision to do the angiplasty last week the nurse clear cut about a acre with her razor, both sides top and bottom. :o
Now a few days later we have regrowth :-X
You want to talk about itching? I was the checkout line at the local grocery store last night when it started................... People all around me, nothing I could do about it. :-\ :o smiley_crying
This is not going to be much fun.............
If you are growing a beard and it itches you can scratch it in church nobody gives it a second thought....... This here's a whole nother issue....... smiley_mad_crazy
Guess you'll just have to pretend that you have a "hitch in your git-a-long" until the hair ends turn away from your skin.... ;D
what about stuffing your drawers with steel wool? when the urge hits you, just take a stroll!
"Put Alkyhall on it." :D

That was a good story Tom...
Well raider you can just start shaving from now on. You will keep the itching down and your wife might like it also.
Boy did I miss you guys.............. :D
