Title: Stihl 036 oiler?
Post by: jeffwb on November 16, 2009, 05:00:36 PM

Will the stock oiler support a 25' b&c?

Lotta bar for 60 cc's . If it won't oil it you're out of luck because as far as I know there is no high output pump for that model .

You could try experimenting with the oil viscosity.
You could also try something that I have found to work in such cases.
You will need to make a blend of oils.
Here, since palm oil and coconut oil are freely available and since their viscosity is low, either is used at a 4:1 ratio with 140 grade gear oil for an 18" bar/chain combo.
For 20 and 25" combos a 4:1 ratio with 90 grade gear oil works. The gear oil is used for its anti-fling property.
Oil pump is set to maximum for both blends.

is that the same oiler on the 361?  and did I hear that you can put the 460 oiler on it to help with the oil?

The oil pumps on the 360 and 361 are different.
The 360 pump has a delivery tube similar to the 440.
The 361 has a delivery passage similar to the 460.
The part numbers for the oil pumps of the 361 and 460 are different.
Since we have no 361 (yet) here I am unable to understand the differences.
But, maybe the difference is only in the oil feed rates.
In that case the 361 could take a 460 oiler.
But, not the 360.

I wouldn't go over 20" on an 036, unless you are patient enough for slow cuts, especially if you're going to be cutting a full 25".

This oiler thing has been discussed on several forums and several times .Just recently one poster said he drilled out the discharge hole of the oiler by a tiny 5 thou of an inch and saw great improvements to the flow .

This may sound hard to believe but last May I ran an 044 with a 36" bar buried in a big log .The saw had been "enhanced " a tad bit but the oiler put out enough oil . Had I not seen it with my own eyes I'd have never believed it .

Now regarding gear lube and the tacking agent there in .Bar oil contains the same stuff plus it doesn't smell like a bucket of fermented butt holes like gear lube .That stuff is just plain nasty .140 weight gear lube is not cheap either .

Agreed, especially on the smell (quite the colorful description there, Al... I may have to borrow it sometime). But in some areas of the world, they don't have the large variety of bar lube available off the shelf that I can find here. I suppose they've found their own concoctions of what works.

Hmm I kinda figured bar oil could be purchased anywhere that sells chainsaws . Even in India but maybe not .

Now you wanta talk smelly oil .I have no idea what they call it but it's used on open gearing in mills etc .The stuff is black like creosote thick as mollasis and they apply it to the gearing with a paint brush  from a five gallon bucket .Now regular gear lube is bad enough but in addtion to that bucket I previously mentioned this stuff smells like a skunk died the that same bucket  along with all those butt holes .Phew .
