I'd like to learn more about using hydraulic motors and multi stage pumps and valving, can anyone recommend a good illustrated handbook.
I don't need actual photos just good explained schematic type with the easy pressure calculations.
Thanks in advance.
Let me know, I'd love to find one too.

I nominate Pineywoods to write one ;) ;D
Back a bunch of years ago, while I was stationed in Kingbays, GA, the Navy decided that I needed some more advanced training in hydraulics. As you know, submarines have hydraulics everywhere. So, they sent me to what I consider to be one of the finest schools I have ever been to; Vickers Hydraulics factory training in Troy, MI. The EATON Corp has since brought them as they are now called Eaton Hydraulics.
Anyways, I checked their website and after a little work, I found the following link to their training manuals: https://web.fluidpower.eaton.com/ssl/listproducts_manuals.asp. Notice the name is still Vickers on some of the manuals. I recommend you ordered the following books/manuals:
1. Intro to Hydraulics Technology Student Workbook– a must have
2. Industrial Hydraulics Manual – if you want more design info
3. Lighting Reference Handbook – this is like the "UGLY's Electrical References" books.
4. Mobile Hydraulics Manual – if you have a need.
Back in 1985 when I attended this training, the instructors and course material was OUTSTANDING.

Check out Surplus Center for some general guidlines and information in this tech help section. Don't now if detailed enough for you.

I found a cd on hydraulics on epay about a year ago. 99 cents. DanG shipping was almost five bucks. It was a military course also.
Thanks for the book recommendations, there are so many books on hydraulics out there that one could spend some serious money before finding a good set. I'm ordering the vickers books now, and theres a little booklet at surplus center. I took a couple classes on hydraulics years ago but we didn't go into motors :o
