If we were to put in a new order for hats, how many could we expect to sell right away?
Put your name down and how many if you expect you would participate. Last time they cost $15 each which included shipping. I dont know what they would be this time, but I am guessing close to the same. We have to order a pretty good swat of them to get a break on pricing. Last time we had to order a gross. If we can sell many of what we order, I might be able to swing an order soon, butI can't if I have to sit on them.
So... What say you??
As of right now I keep mine for special occasions. Put me down for 1 anyhow.
As far as the quality of the hat, can't beat it, they can't swim, ask Raider Bill.
I'd take one.

who gets the loot???
I'll take one if the're coming in camo. Can't do white.
I'm leaning towards a camo version this time around. I just have to wait and make sure funds will be available, then I'll go figure it out. It will probably be part camo as I dont want anything that will obscure the forum I.D. on the front. They also have to be good hats. I hate a cheap poorly built hat.
Maybe you can mix up the order half and half? I think once they spool up for a order it doesn't much matter what hat they run or at least that's the way a local guy used to do it here.
You got good taste so you know a quaility hat. I always hated those cheap mesh hats with the plastic adjuster.
I know this won't fly, but I like 'em with a mesh top. ;D ;D

Thanks for the offer, but No, I'd rather not do it that way. I want to make sure that all the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted when we do hats. Once we order and get them, then we will set up an online store of sorts again for ordering so Tammy can easily keep track of who orders, who pays, and who's hats are shipped to for accounting purposes.

Once we order the hats, and get them, We will start a new thread announcing that they are in, and in that thread will be the information on how to order. I'm going to go look at samples Friday after I drop Tammy off at work. I have to go with her because her Christmas party is right after work at the Village Inn in Marion. All you can eat Fish. ;D

I just took a rough count and I believe 62 are called for. C'mon peeps this is a fund raiser for da forum and there has got to be more people who would buy a hat or two. ;)
Um, no, its not a fund raiser for the forum. Any time we ever ordered hats, it was a break even proposition at best. Its never been about raising funds. Its about finding a way to supply those of you that want a Forestry Forum hat with a Forestry Forum hat. :)
I'd like 2 please.
I'm starting a collection of them ;D
I'll take one in Camo
Sorry Jeff, I was under the vision that it was a bit of a fundraiser for some reason.
Coon.
Since you may be going to the provider, you may want to tweak the colors a bit. Currently they are a yellow sun with a yellow-heavy green tree upon a light background hat.
Yellow is easily "lost" upon lighter backgrounds.
A more orange sun, behind a darker green tree, would present better upon a hat which has a base color of "Medium Standard Federal Green" (which is the old color of USFS trucks).
Like it or not, people associate certain colors with forestry. And those colors are medium reds, medium dark greens, and light browns (deep tans).
Do you already have a hat? If you do, I dont know where you got yours, cause what you are describing don't look like the ones I have had made in the past. :D The colors you describe are not the colors of the logo on the hats at all. The sun is orange and the tree is deep green and the lettering in a dark brown and black. I hardly think the logo is lost on this background as shown below.
Nope. I've never seen that one. It looks pretty good.
That's what everybody has pretty much at this point as that was the hat in the last three orders.
I went to the hat shop and picked out the next hat design. I didn't order yet. Not until I have the money in hand I'm expecting, cause the way things go ya never know until ya know, and the last thing I want to do is have $1300 worth of hats I have to pay for and not be able to. Hopefully if things go as planned, I can order this coming week. I think ya'll will be pleased with the style. :) (or at least satisfied) ;)
The quality of the last Hat we got was excellent and one of the finest Hats I've ever worn.
Not for nothing but, I'd gladly pay twenty dollars for that Hat. ;)

I dont know if I need to say this, but by the language in some of these posts, it is almost as if you are putting in an order. We are NOT taking orders here for hats. We are only getting an idea of how many hats we will need for when we do start taking orders.
All we are doing with this thread is trying to keep a running total so we can order a sufficient number that everyone that wants one, can buy one. We are not taking names. YET. :)
Put me in the count for one, Jeff.
Thanks.
Norm
I would like to see the design and color of the hat you chose before stating whether I want one or not.
Warbird, You just got to trust Jeff's good taste. I do.
Stonebroke
It isn't a matter of trust, Stone. Some styles of hats look really bad on me. That's all. :)
We should be the judge of that. ;)
The style of hat is the same as we have almost, in regards to fit and size and height of cap. I don't like those low profile hats. I want something that will stay on, and feels like its on when you put it on.
It looks like hats will be 12.50 plus shipping. The new camo pattern is extra money then what we had, but it still looks like the price will be close to the last time. I'm going to configure a shopping cart that connects real time with USPS to get your actual shipping costs and that will be added to the hat(s) at checkout when you order. You will be able to use your credit card via paypal, Papal, or check or money order to pay.
To clarify.
The hats have a camo bills with what I think would be called a khaki top. You can easily hunt in em. :) They look good. They look Camo, and more importantly, they are a good hat with the logo that can be easily recognized.
I tried to take his sample, I tried to buy his sample, but he only had the one sample. :-\
I had originally asked for one but at that price I'll take two.

Were getting close to where we would get our money back if every one does order like the thread above appears. Still wait in for some sort of funds to come in before we can order. We were hoping that it would have been by now, but no luck so far.

In the store Jeff ... ya know to the left of your screen ::) ;D :D :D
Oh...
That stuff on link on the left of the screen, is produced one at a time by a third party company called cafe press. I put it together in order to have some buttons made one time. they give you the option to put your logo on their products and sell them. they set a base price and you put on top of that what you want for a profit. The bade prices are pretty high, so because of that its not a money making opportunity in my eyes, just a way to let people get some stuff with the forum logo on it if they want. I don't really know why I even have the link on there any more. I have not looked at it in a couple years. They are good about doing what they do though.

If it was anything like importing gear into australia Your sides pretty good with charges its when it gets here the barstards (dockers) start stinging you for all kindsa hidden/extra expencess :o :) ??? (for some ppl ) ;) once it hits the dock 5$ k for a second cleaning even on new equipment storage while they are rooting around telling blokes they need to get other permits as because its done a test runn (and its been cleaned well before shipping) which takes 2-4 weeks but there are ways around thse things ;) :D ;D 8) then the goverment gets onboard and wants 5% import duty and 10% gst of the cost of the gear landed the packing & freights the cheap part ;) :D ;D 2x 40' hicube and 1 20' hicube containers from NC to Melbourne fob is about $9k ;) ;D 8) 8)
Regards Chris
The hats have been ordered. We should have them in about two weeks. :)
I'll start saving my pocket change :)
We'll go up to the post office and try to figure out what the best way to ship will be. I'm not happy with the prices that are being returned with my testing on the little store I put together for this. I have it tied into the USPS to get real time shipping costs for the area it is being shipped to (by Zip) from their servers but those are coming back an average of 5 to 7 dollars to ship around the united states. That seems steep to me. Were going to box up a couple of old hats and go down and have them weigh and give some estimates that way. The only real time available service from the post office is priority.
I've configured UPS too, but that comes back nonsense. Who the hell is going to pay almost ten bucks to have a hat shipped. Between 9 and 10 is the minimum charge using them.
A six inch square box with a hat only weighs about .5 lbs on our scale here.
We'll get it worked out before the hats get here so you know before ordering. :)
Gday Jeff
WoooHooo ;D 8) 8) 8) 8) Whats the cost on the hats coming in at ea excuding post Mate ??? ???

Jeff, Have you looked into the flat rate boxes from usps?
Stonebroke
Yes, and the only reasonable one is a small flat box, which is almost 5 bucks, and I wouldn't want my hat smooshed into one. :D
Chris the hats will be 12.50 each then what ever we can get the postage for.

Flat rate boxes are only priority. There are cheaper ways to ship I am sure. Flat rate boxes just make it simple, not necessarily cheaper.
When you figure the shipping via the USPS directly, they are only telling you what it should cost to ship so that amount can be added to the order. You still have to collect it and go pay for the shipping. So yes, we get the loot directly before we give it to the post office. We may come up with a flat rate for U.S domestic orders and let the software figure it out for anything else. Tammy is going to the post office today to try and sort it out with them, and see if we can come up with an average for the states, and just charge that. She already bought boxes two years ago, so we have those. The post office has free boxes for the flat rate, but they aint really free because the flat rate is not the cheapest way to mail.
Just email mine I will cut and paste it to my head :D
Sweet! I'm actually going to be ordering 2, now. Maybe even 3, if the Mrs doesn't growl too loud. A couple of my good friends who also heat with wood and dream about owning a mill someday could use a hat. We meet for breakfast once a week and often talk about our dreams of buying a couple hundred acres way out of town, purchasing a mill, and working the land.
I am hoping that they'll someday create an account here. :) Regardless, they are good guys and would likely appreciate an FF hat.
Jeff
Figure your time, the costs, some extra that you and Tammy deserve, and then round it up. Seems minimum of $20 - $25 per hat, second or third hat an additional $15 (or something similar) would be the way to go. Doesn't seem worth squeezing pennies when your time IS worth something. Tammy's too ;D
(and we can un-skoosh the hats when they arrive too ;D )
and Warbird... I don't give any FF hats away. They have to earn it the hard way. :)

Yea, but some people just can't afford a hat at higher prices. I know I couldn't. What if I did this, made the base price, then give a price option to add a few bucks if you want to?

it isn't the affording it's the what for...
I think that is a good idea, Jeff but it might be nice to handle it in such a way that the 'extra' is anonymous. Much like how the team handles donation drives. Is that possible?
beenthere, good point. Perhaps if I sport my new hat they'll get the desire to have their own and search it out by themselves. I like the way you think! :)
Its pretty hard (read impossible) to make it anonymous when I have to have a name and address to ship the hats. If someone wants to make an anonymous contribution to any type of organization, I am sure they have their own way of doing it. It was just an off the cuff suggestion in response to Beenthere's post. I just don't want someone to not be able to buy a hat that wants one, because I raised the price 5 bucks.
Jeff if you don't mind email me when you get them as I don't check all topics, and my brain is not as swift as it used to be.
Thats why I need a hat, to keep anything that might get out in. ;D
Man, I hope 6000 other members dont ask me to do that... ;)

We all have to make choices with what we have and with what we want. To me, I'd like to see the FF hats at least self-supporting, with enough left over that the FF (i.e. you) can hand out a hat or two when the right time to award someone when such a time comes along. Without a cushion, then handing out a hat or two is a money-losing situation. As well, having a kitty for ordering the next batch of hats makes it a bit easier when the time comes.
Not trying to cause you more headaches or run your business.. ;) ;)
Price option is a fair way to go, I think its a good move offering base price to assist loyal folk who's cash priorities need to be directed elsewhere in these trying times. The option gives others a chance to give a little back for the enjoyment they get from FF that way at the end of the day we should all get to go home with a hat. :)

Yes, it is a great idea. That is a nice way to show support for the Forum.

+3
What I'm thinking of doing is sending $20.00, that will cover the cost of the hat + shipping and the rest will go to the forum! ;)
Uhhhmmm , y'all still takin real money(Confederate Dollars) right??? I'll take at least one, probably two, depending on the time of month they come in
The hats were supposed to be ready for delivery today. We called to inquire about a pick up time, and they told us they have not even started them. LAST time we pay the balance upfront. Maybe the last time we buy hats from this company too. :-[
Anyhow, no hats yet. :-\
Ouch. That is not cool. Take a couple of large logging buddies and some chainsaws next time you stop by. ;)
Sort of goes back to that customer service we were talking about....................
I guess nobody told them that I am without a FF hat and have been waiting way too long for a new one. :D
Don't matter whether you are sawing, cutting, hauling, or making hats.
Keep your promise to the customer, or call him and tell him why. Don't make him call you.
I suggest Imperial headware in Denver. They have the best caps and the best service that I have seen. All of the major golf clubs, sportsman's lodges, and log home companies use them. You can request a sample of a few of their different styles for a small charge as well. No one has better caps IMHO.
Pap
There are probably 50,000 hat places in the United states so I'll be the last to say that any one of them is better then the rest. I think I'll stick to one where I can go drag the guy over the counter if I need to.

THANK YOU! BUT!!! PLEASE PLEASE Do Not send for hats with out going through the order process! Tammy will skin me. She needs to be able to keep everything straight, so I've set up an actual shopping cart program for this. I'll start a new thread in a few moments to launch it.

Good looking hats!
I saw this old topic about Forestry Forum Hats and was wondering if they are something that is still available and if so how would you order a couple?

Send Jeff a PM. I'll bet he has 1 or 2 with your name on it.
We are out of hats. Have been for awhile. There really has been no great request for them, so I can't reorder. I have to have a considerable amount of people that are interested again before I can order, as it is just to much money for me to tie up at one time.
Jeff, has there ever been an interest from members for shirts of any kind? I know I would buy a couple. Just wondering.
+1
And +1 on another hat, too. :)
I'm definitely interested in a couple hats and a shirt too depending on the price and colors.
Hay boss put me in for a hat thanks 8)
We have a handful of 10th anniversary Pigroast t-shirts we could sell for a fund raiser if anyone is interested in that. I'd have to get the sizes from Tammy that we have available.
I'll pay $$$ for one XL. :)
I would take a L and S (for the wife) if they are available
There nice looking hats.
Put me down for one.
