Not too familiar with Husky saws. Son-In-Law just picked up what looks to be a used 380 with a 36 in bar. A couple questions to the Husky fans:
1) What size/model Stihl saw is a Husky 380 comparable to ?
2) If tuned properly, is the 380 a reasonable power head to pull a 36 in chain and bar ? If not, what is a reasonable bar length with 3/8" chain ?
3) Thumb nail value range in good running condition ? Looked at eBay, but couldn't find any 380's for sale or recently listed. Plenty of 385's, so I am assuming the 380 is an older model...
As always, all help greatly appreciated...

I'd never heard of it but a quick Google search led me to this page-

A 40 year old saw with only 77cc doesn't sound nearly strong enough to pull a 36" bar with authority. I wouldn't run a 36" on anything less than 95cc. I run a 32" on my one year old 395XP but it could pull a 36.
Displacement wise it's closest to a Stihl MS460 (79cc).
That is an old sucker. 24" bar would be more reasonable. On ebay you might be able to drag $150-$175 out of it, but it isn't worth that much. As far as comprable saws, the 380 is much heavier and turns slower than a new saw today with the same HP figures, so it is hard to compare. It is a tank though, they are built tough and I still service a few.
Here is the spec sheet for it http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/ed1d619968136da688256af40002b8f7/165f8c474323380b88256b52001969a6?OpenDocument (http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/ed1d619968136da688256af40002b8f7/165f8c474323380b88256b52001969a6?OpenDocument)
As stated above. It was the precursor to the 480 of which I owned a few in the mid 70's. I ran a 30" bar on mine for falling smaller timber. I also used them for limbing when I had long bars on my 2100's. A 36" bar is too much for that saw.
Folks,
I appreciate the responses. Knew I could get good honest information here on the Forum.
Thank you !
