Title: First produce from the garden
Post by: Bro. Noble on April 22, 2010, 10:41:24 AM
I'm having my first grub from the garden.  I guess it's really the last thing from last years garden.  I was noticing some parsnip tops in last years garden patch and decided to see if anything was under them.  I missed enough last fall to make me a nice snack on this rainy morning ;D

We've been having asparagus from our garden and I noticed the wild ones are just coming up, good stuff!

Cripes! We can't even plant our garden yet!  It was 31 degrees this morning!  Probably can't plant until after Mother's Day.  Grumble grumble

Well,  if you can't work in the garden,  you have plenty of time to tell us some more railroad stories ;D

Our spring has been so warm the asparagus would be sprouted, but we have had norain at all. It is finally raining right now, all the foliage is going to explode I think. We are about 3 weeks ahead of schedule with our spring, usually it is mid to late may before the leaves are growing and you can find wild asparagus. I love asparagus, try a ham cheese and asparagus omelet- you won't regret it!

Leaves started out 2 weeks ago here, also a month ahead of normal. Everything is in flower (trees/shrubs) Not all the woodland flowers are out yet but starting. Some hillside have fiddle heads up where the sun is stronger, but not the wetter flats yet. I've mowed twice this spring in the last two weeks and never mow before week three in May usually. ::)
Farmers started planting grains this week.

I've got a few heads of broccoli about to come off...potatoes are exploding out of the ground...beans seem to be putting down roots..expect them to shoot up in the next couple of weeks..I planted a row of french garden greens a couple weeks ago..they are making an appearance...probably be eating them in a month or so...

I really need a hoop house with a shade cloth cover...my cold weather stuff always seems to burn up...
