I am a member at WMSTR and have spent some time watching this mill operate. It puts on a real show. They have there annual show Labor day weekend every year. It is worth the trip to see.

Hey Mark,
How's come Cindy's wearing a CAT hat and
not wearing a ForestryForum Hat? ;)
Great pictures. Looked like you got a hands on experience. Wish I could have been there.

I was browsing through the image archives and came across this thread on the big mill at Rollag. I missed it somehow when it was posted originally. Dad and I were there the year they had the big Rumely show and didn't get to see this mill run as everyone was out plowing with the Rumelys. They do have a smaller mill there though that they were running with a variety of old steam and gas traction engines. It's a great show especially if you like big prairie tractors.
Here is a link to a steam mill in Oregon that still runs on a day to day basis. Takes a few seconds for the pictures to load but worth it ! They mainly run largeand Longtimbers to say the least ;Dhttp://www.garymkatz.com/ontheroad/hulloaks.htm
Thanks for that link, Sawhead. That was interesting.
Puts my little podunk operation into perspective! :D
Sawhead, That's awesome! 8) I think everybody on this forum needs to see that - especially the band blade portion - don't think they'd be able to rotate that and curl it up in a nice coil. I'll bet the offbearer goes home pretty tired at night............. smiley_dizzy Mark - those are some fine pictures!
I got to watch the mill at rollag in action this summer- that fella on the carriage was really gettin with it and the boards were flyin off. They really put on a good show down there. Lots of old construction equipment, massive old engines, 2 sawmills, passenger steam engine that circles the whole grounds. It takes the whole weekend to see everything.
