I posted this last sunday on the timber framing section but it didn't spark much interst so I'll try it here.
Me and a couple friends are building a log cabin on one of their grandfathers property. We have access to lots of 12 to 18 inch spruce and cedar and some tamarack. So far the cabin is being made with aprx 14 inch spruce logs. It measure 12 by 20 and sits off the ground about 2 feet on wooden posts. One guy has a Massey Ferguson 231 with a loader that he brings out to skid logs and lift them onto the cabin. We're using axes and chainsaws for most of the work so far. I'd like any tips any of you may have for us. Thanks.
I'll try to get some pictures up soon.
If youse gonna use logs fer stringers to put the floor on; use BIG ones. Otherwise its gives alot. ;)
Made that mistake only once. :(
