Minds think like there twenty yet and push themselves to the limit. Get up the next morning and have to set on the edge of the bed a few minuites trying to figure out if you died or its morning ;D My friends tell me I have to learn how to pace myself. But it seems like I have one speed, the same speed when I was a young man ::)
We think we're running at that same speed, but I can't do it anymore. Everything seems to take a little longer. This is why they make Flomax. :D
I turned 60 last July and it hit me hard. :-\

I don't think I'm going to make it. :D :D :D ;D
Uh, I can't remember back that far... :(
67 and counting. I'm trying to catch Tom. :o
I've started to slow down a bit, but only because I want to. Should have done it thirty years ago (see, I'm getting smarter).
My grandson is helping to keep me young ;D.
Lets see if I was sixty when do I need to say I was born. ;D
Two years ago! :) Qualify for Social Security this month! ;D
My wife keeps pacing me. :D
I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was! ;)
The old LT40 will be out of the garage in a couple more months! 8)
I turned the early retirement age last September. Ever since, I've been trying to figure out if I want to go that route, keep on working, or just slow down and do a partial retirement. That sue is hard to decide.
Things started to creep up on me the past few years. I don't move as fast, and I'm getting a lot more aches and pains. I've noticed it especially in the saw booth. I keep track of daily production, and its starting to slow down. Must be the equipment. :D
Being old is not making a good impression on me.
I'm only 54, but having broken 63 bones in various misadventures I think my body qualifies as 60. That sitting in the side of the bed thing sounds familiar. I get up at 4:30 or so due to pain and it takes me an hour or so to be able to move half way decent. I'm hoping that by the time I reach sixty that you can pick up new joints at Walmart cheap, as I am going to need a few.
Larry
Slow will get you there, stopped won't,keep moving! :D :D
Just Me, I hope you have learned to be more careful! :o :D
The quote in my signature line pretty much sums up my feelings.
My Dad was working as hard as a young man when he was in his 60's. He was a special breed of man and from that era where they were like that, they just were (a Man's Man).
I'm 62 and feeling like 72. My back hurt's (L5) my right shoulder hurt's because of a torn rotator cup, that happened in 2004 and mending it's self little by little. Doctoring for reduced lung (now 70%) functrion with breathing treatments & med.'s. Take my 30/70 insulin 3 times a day when I eat. Med's. for fatty liver and high blood pressure. Now I sleep with CPAP (breathing mach.) for severve sleep apnea. Now.. How I can be a fighter jock at night and have my full face oxy. mask on.. dreaming about dog fights and all that (little jok'ee) :D.
I was treated for depression (med.'s) and this made me crazier than I usually am (2nd little jok'ee on me). :D Two years ago.. I was really in trouble heath wise and taking a lot of pill's. I went to the VA ER 3 times in a 4 week period. I think.. you should know something is wrong when the WW2 Vet's pass you down the hallway as I was shuffling along. During my 3rd ER trip to the VA (dizzy & weak) the male ER nurse pulled me aside. He told me that I'm taking way too much medication. He said, don't look at my name tag but here's my name.. see it. Get off that yellow team and move over to the blue team doctor's. The blue team has the best doctor's in the hospital. Your're taking enough med's. to kill a horse (fig. of speech). I stopped taking all my med's. for three days and felt better in one day and much better in 3 days. Now, I take just what I have to take and might make it to 72.
Also, I don't understand... did I do something wrong to deserve a doctor (old yellow team) that I can bearly understand and communicate with ? Do you think that this doctor was giving me a handful of pill's to help me or kill me (no Joke here :(. I've been taking my Son with me for my VA Dr. Visit's and in the exam. room too. I want him to see what he can expect from the VA in regard to to the top level of professionals that would treat him in the future... should he decide to enter into military service. I don't think he's leaning in the direction of mil. service as his 1st choice for a career field (perhaps it's a VA health care issue for Vet's.). Disclaimer...Not all VA health care is this bad and some is right on the money (I would hope).
Like is Very Precious and I Figured this out in the Autum of our Life. My Son is my No# 1 Focus, always trying to think of a joint project that will develop him further along. My Dad lived long enough to leave his mark on him and make's me smile in my mind when he refer's to his Grandfather.. that he said this or did this.. Yes, Big Smiles.

I just turned 64, I can't seem to sleep for much longer that 4 or 5 hours a night in a bed. Back when I was way younger I didn't sleep more that 4 or 5 hours at a whack either.
I sit on the edge of the bed to muster the courage to stand and do my sprattle lagged waddle to the bath room and then the kitchen to fix my first cup of morning tea laced with honey. Ya I know I should leave that alone since i am in insluin, but I harvest the stuff so want to sample the fruits of my labor.
Any how it seems to get the body back to where it don't ache as awful much any longer, and i can walk a normal walk.
Even at 54 I had a hard time keeping up with my 80+ dad who was still farming at 89 before finally saying he had had enough. My 35 year old son still can't keep up with me and I really believe he inherted all his genes from his mom. She who is younger than I says I will out live her and to just slow down were not in a race at the grocery store.
I don't really have any thing good to say about the Saginaw VA Hospital where I didn't even rate having a doctor even though I aquired a Veit Nam disability. Some day I will run across the friends and family who sent me the greetings and I'm going to kick the livin crap out of them if they are even still alive.
In April I will have been with out a real paying job for 10 years. I still work just don't get that weekly pay check.
;D Al
I am 61 and still working.I enjoy playing sawmiller, logger, excavator, farmer, builder, but I am tired of playing plumber. I like to start late and quit early. Holmes
Sounds more like Indian time 10:00 am 'til 3:00 pm. Work week Tuesday to Thursday, pay for full 40 hr week. ;D
Gday
My Grandfathers 84yo this year and still driving truck and doing document deliveries in Melbourne and all over the state at times for 40 to 60hrs a week all I can say is I hope Im still kicking and and doing 1/2 as well as him at that age You cant stop him ;) ;D ;D he says the only thing that starting to tick him off abit is that vicroads are strarting to test him more often so he can keep his license due to the fact he is over 80yo and hes not very happy about that at all ;) :D :D :D
Regards Chris
:) :D ;D Pushing "67" next month. ;D :D :)
In my 70th year. Every morning, I throw off the covers and check to see if I have a toe tag. So far so good :)
Just read the updates to Grumpy Old Men. Pineywoods got the answer. You have got to give it away to keep it. Check the Betty Davis quote at the bottom. We buried a 89 year old sawyer this past August, His legs gave out a few years ago but he did keep moving anyway. You start to die when you stop learning. I learn lot from my kids and grandkids.
At 73 I'm just a little younger than Pineywoods. Celebrated 50 years of nuptial bliss on January 7, 2011. My wife questioned my sanity when I bought my Cooks MP 32 nine years ago but she did stay. I'm glad she did.......
My father will be 73 this March, it's golf, garden, and couch. 8)
I feel like I've crested a big hill. No plans to climb anymore big hills but I'm sure enjoying all those whoop dee doos. Gota be a bit of optimist since I just bought a new mill few months back.
67 here and having the time of my life since I retired just over a year ago.
My wife likes me around also but says she dosnt see much more of me than before. Outside a lot. Biggest firewood pile I ever have had.
I have a few months to go, but was feeling really used up, and started going to a good chiropractor, he got my neck fixed, and my lower back doesn't hurt any more,
went to some "wellness" meetings, and started doing the diet they recommend, and have to say I haven't felt this good in years. Now I have lots of plans for building stuff.
I am half way through 62.
Only 2 things make me think I am 10 years younger; the sound of a chainsaw firing up or the sound of good whiskey pouring into a glass. Good thing they NEVER happen at the same time ;) :D
I'm only 53, but I generally pop out of bed and turn a few cartwheels down the stairs just to limber up first thing in the morning. ;)
Yeah, me too Faron. It's usually because I trip on the stairs. ::)
Yep you old guys sure are giving me something to look forward toooooooooo......................
I'm already crackleing, grinding achey and sore

Is you ugly too ??? Now, that would be bad. :D

The Magicwoman turned 66 today.
They grow up so fast its amazing. Have a good one, bg
I turned 65 this fall and have slowed up I know, even though I've just got to where I can keep up with my dad who turns 96 in a few weeks. :D He gave up carrying the Mail a couple week ago because was having trouble breathing in the cold air 20'F and lower. He won the bid on a mail contract carrier route 33 years ago, but since Christmas as let my sister and brother in-law take over the Route. He also is letting my BIL do the feeding of the 100 or so feeder calves he bought this fall. He is slowing down, the found a few blockages in his heart last fall, but because of his age didn't want to do surgery. He still is active at church and tries to make it to a couple of salebarns every week.
I retired from my day job at 60 and never looked back. We rented the farms out several years ago but I kept the heavy equipment. I have been clearing fence rows, repairing and installing new tile ditches, and other dirt work. My wife wants a pond and a couple of other people want some work done. We have our new woodshop under roof and ready to wire, insulate, and install heat. There's a whack of nice ERC logs in the yard along with red oak. I delivered a custom 8' x 8' pallet about 6 weeks ago and picked up a order for red oak loading boards and some blocking. My electrician showed up unexpectedly and offered to trade work, saw his logs in exchange for wiring. I love it when a plan comes together, right? Wrong? Walking across the shop my left leg went numb, I drug it around the shop and walked it off. Got up a couple days later and had a hard time walking. Both legs had lost some feeling and were weak and unsteady. Doc tried steroids and a muscle relaxant, no luck. Next 2 MRIs and a trip to a specialist. Nothing definite yet, but I go back in a week to the specialist with a new set of MRI photos. I overdid it the first of the week and am back in my recliner. I picked up some new toys and want to try them. I AM GOING NUTS. BWAAAHAHA. Golden years, bah humbug. :D
Being 60 again would be nice. ;) I only downhill skied 3 times this week, was in the woods on a timber sale yesterday and took 2 hard falls on the icy landing. Glad that I didn't hurt myself. :D
Older and a bit slower
but
still on the right side of the grass ;D
see my signature line...
Said to my wife awhile back that I felt "old, fat bald and bitter...."
She asked what I was bitter about :D

Happy Birthday lumberjack48
it's 65 for me this year and here i am, living proof that you can burn the candle at both ends and make it this far with most systems still working. something i've noticed about this bunch of young old farts, we seem to be aging while doing, which i believe might be jbpaxton's dad's secret of success.
I'll turn 65 in May and am trying to decide if I will keep working or retire.
More aches and pains than a few years ago but life is good. In February my two sons and I are going on our chuches third annual ski week in Winter Park CO. We plan to ski 7 days in a row ( all day!)
Arthur Fiedler used to say "He who rests ROTS". I think a lot of people here have learned that lesson and aren't ready to sit down and rot.
Magicman congrats on the birthday. It makes me recall the joke about a couple who celebrated their 60th birthday on the same day. A genie appeared and offered each of them one wish. The woman asked for health and happiness. The man however asked to be married to a sexy woman 30 years younger. POOF he was 90 years old.
It sounds as if we are both lucky to have a wonderful wife.
Getting old isn't for the faint of heart but it still offers excitement and lots of joy if you look for it

Knowing what your job was before, I'd say that is an accurate statement. ;D :D :D :D
You know too much. ;)
63.....
and it won't let me fegetit....
wesdor, winter park is a good place to ski. They have some good snow now. went to steamboat after Christmas and it was great. skied only two days. big storm was comming in and could not stay untill all the passes were cleared. lost one day condo and ski rental. will go back again. body held up ok just dont move as well as i once did. going snowmobiling in about six weeks at grand lake,co. Been retired three years and stay busy, cutting wood for fire place, sawing a little lumber for wood projects, do some backhoe work for neighbors and friends. These have been the best jobs i have had all my life and i wouldnt trade it for nothing. retirement is great. hope everyone can do the same as soon as they can. bg
I´m up there with the old farts but can´t say I feel old.
A woman is as old as she feels. A man is as old as the woman he feels.
:D That means I got a year older Thursday. :o
Retired I don't know how I ever had time to go work for some one else. I've heard those words echoed time and time again from retired people. I was able to have the time to hunt and fish more when I worked for others.
;D Al

amazing how that year older happens in an instant....
I'll turn 65 this year. Still working harder than i did before I "retired". Wouldn't change a thing. Having the time of my life.
Down here when you pass 60 they warn you against buying green bananas. >:(
Don't tell'm your age. ;)
It would probably help if everyone put their age in their Profile! ;)
There's a few of us on here that 60 sounds young :(
Amen to that Pineywoods ;D
This is funny
I think the record for the youngest is tyb525.
18 years old, imagine that! ;D
It is encouraging too know that some of the next generation is afflicted with the same traits........I think as my name is added to the list :-\
