Title: We'll take your last nickel.
Post by: shopteacher on January 04, 2004, 10:00:35 AM
I just read an article in the Western Pa. Public Record that " a Pa. taxpayer has to work more than half a year to to pay for government, the cost is obviously excessive and out of control. Cited taxes are tobacco product, beer, cigarette, personal income, sales, gas, capital stock and franchise taxes as well as increases to various state imposed fees. Their now proposing cell phone, poured beverage and commuter taxes in W. Pa. and these will be piled on top of recent increases in county, school, and municipal taxes. One of the states Representatives has proposed a new state slogan: We'll take your last nickel.
Gee, I wonder why people try to cheat on their taxes?

Yes, and they turned down the slots at the racetracks.  Meanwhile, you see buses that daily go to Atlantic City, so they can play the slots.  Seems prudent to keep it in our state.

The reason a lot of the county and states have added more taxes is due to the unfunded mandates from Washington.  We'll get to the point where the government collapses under its own weight.  1 out of every 5 workers are employed by government.

Its the same here in Canada. Our federal government has finally balanced the budget but they are hoarding the surplus for all their realatives :D....Seriously, if you get elected to office here in Canada, all your realatives git nonfunctional jobs that pay waaaaay too much. I think our tax free day is in early august now(correct me fellow canucks if im wrong)

Yep, you got it Ron.  That way they can perpetuate the system and maintain their positions of control and influence and still get their annual increases in salary as well as a cost of living expense.

"Esentially a bureaucracy is a hierarchy of social positions which is complete within itself, without reference to those indivuduals within the system."

Then you you see where a large number of the bureaucrats in the IRS were cheating by way of loop holes, apparently only they were aware the to manipulate around and through.

I just read in today's Pittsburgh paper that the state government is now the largest industry in the state, surpassing agriculture, maufacturing, etc. For years Harrisburg has wondered why residents and businesses are moving to other states. Alot of it comes down to the massive state bureaucracy we have to navigate and fund.

Like they say "if you can't make it in the business world, you can work for the government."
That gets proven every time I have to get permits/ license.

My oldest brother moved to Pa. 2 years ago. He said he cant even mow his yard without being taxed. Every time I see him he tells me, why did I move to Pa.

Last summer I seen a guy that I use to work with in construction. I ask him what he was doing now and he said he works for the state. I said what kind of work and he said, well I drive around and make sure every body is working. I said, o your a foreman, he said no I just drive around and see that everybody is working.  ::) Are tax money at work.  :(

Don't feel left out Shopteacher.  Even though our real  estate taxes are reasonable around here they keep pinchin us for more everyday.I   got the renewal for my truck plates and  they  jacked them up from  $42  to $68 . Thats a pretty good jump for one year. They even doubled the cost to renew your drivers license also . I' m waiting for my state Fire Alarm Installation license renewal to see if it increased also.

What really gets me is they tell the working class people they will have to take pay cuts and concessions because of the economy but the  keep getting raises and creating more gov jobs .

If you think you have it bad in PA, consider this. MA has 1/3 the population of PA, but, spends just as much (of your taxes) on government.

in new brunswick we pay 15% on sales tax alone. income tax averages around 30 or 35% (anywhere from 20 to 40%). Add in property taxes and you don't have much left.
