i have a really old husqvarna practice chainsaw. it is old enough that it still has points. i dont know the year or the model because the things that would show that information on the outside is gone from the work it has been through. i am doing some research to try and find the model. so far i believe it is either a husqvarna practica 40 or a husqvarna practica 44. it is a pretty small chainsaw. i need some help on some things that would show what model it is because i am haveing some problems with it and i need to know the model to order them.
Is the number stamped into the crank case directly above the bar pad? That was a great saw in it's day.
I have an old Husqvarna Practica. when i try to crank this chainsaw it will finally crank after a good amount of pulls, but only run for a couple of seconds. then i will have to pull it many more times to finally get it to run for just a couple more seconds. it acts like there is a hole in the gas line and it is sucking air through it, but i took it out and checked it and it didnt have any holes, and i check the fuel filter and it is good, i also checked the other line that goes into the gas tank that puts air in it when the gas is burnt, but i cant find the problem with what could be making the chainsaw only run for a couple of seconds. what could be wrong with it?
With few exceptions usually the points on a magneto system never really "wear out " .Polish the contact points using fine aluminum oxide cloth and burnish them with a lens cleaning tissue ,set to about 18 thou and it should be okay .
With points if you set them too close the timing will be slightly retarded ,too far advanced .Extremely too far ,no ignition .
Clean the carb. and put a rebuild kit in it. The diaphgrams have probably gotten hard.

Take a look at the filter inside the carburettor. It could be clogged.
i did check the points and they seemed fine to me. and i checked the fuel filter and it wasent clogged. i do think that it could be the diaphram in the carburetor because it will crank but only run for a couple seconds and it will take a while for it to be able to crank and only run a couple seconds again
After you rebuild carb. go ahead and put a new gas filter in looks are decieving.
