Kevin and Tammy from Logrite donated a 60" Logrite peavey as a Pig Roast door prize. Since I was interested in one, before the drawing, I questioned Kevin regarding a cant hook.
Jeff and Tammy drew numbers for door prizes at the Pig Roast. When Jeff got down to the last ticket in the box, he declared that person would get the Logrite. He then called out #859. My number. :)
Kevin immediately sent his wife Tammy over to me offering to exchange the peavey for a cant hook. I was a bit hesitant, but Tammy and Kevin were insistent.

I am the proud owner of a Logrite peavey.

I am even more proud of the Logrite cant hook that was waiting for me when we got home.
My thanks to Logrite for being a Forestry Forum Sponsor.
Nice Prize Mag.
Hey Magicman, You could send either one of those my way. ;) I could use one about now with some of those monsters I am gonna have to handle.
I've got one of the 48 inch ones and it's one of the best tools I have owned. One like yours is on the wish list.
I love my 30" Mill Special cant hook. I was so happy with it that I bought a 60" Logrite peavey. To be honest, I prefer my old wood-handled peavey to the Logrite.
However ... I modified the Logrite peavey so it is more of a cant hook and I'm really pleased with it (I just drove out the roll pin that holds the point in and replaced it with a longer one that bights into the log).
Bottom line -- for rolling logs at the mill and in the log yard, I prefer the Logrite cant hook. For shifting logs in the bush I like my old fashioned peavey.
I just bought a 48 inch logrite cant hook and I am amazed at how good of a tool it is and how well it works.
Logrite equipment is top of the line in my opinion. It feels like a "real" tool.
You know MM almost looks like a photo chop picture. ;D The best of both worlds.
I can't speak for a peavy but, the difference between a Logrite Cant Hook and a Razorback Snapping Turtle is the Logrite Cant Hook won't let go when it thunders! :D :D :D
It will be next week before I find out.
I'm doing stuff this week. You know, the kind of stuff that you have to do for her when you run out of excuses for not doing stuff. ;D
I'm ready to order a few tools for use around our mill, I just wanted to say Thank You to Kevin and Tammy and I hope they know how much there sponsorship here on the forum is doing for their business. I have heard nothing but good things said here about Logrite tools and that is where I'll do my shopping, congrats on the door prize MM!
I'll finish this job tomorrow and maybe I will be able to use the Logrite. Gabby will not let me get my hands on it.

Gabby monopolizing the Logrite. ;D
I tell folks the difference between my LogRite Cant and a Logger Head Snapping Turtle, My LogRight Cant don't let go when it thunders. :D :D :D
I have 5 other cant hooks and peaveys and was comparing the arch on the hooks yesterday. They have the shape figured out.
Just tell me they're made 100% in America ,please !

Yes they are!
Not only are Logrite tools made in the USA. It's also my understanding the the Logrite owners Kevin and Tammy are also.

Made in the USA. :)
When I bought my sawmill (used), it came with 5 various cant hooks and peaveys. I have gotten by with them for 10 years. I have been questioned several times on here about "no Logrite??"

After winning and using the Pig Roast cant hook, I knew that more were in my future. They are just that much better than whatever is in second place.
When I got back from Colorado, a UPS package was waiting for me. :)

I am now a 3 Logrite Sawyer.
Way to go MM. I ben thinking about getting one my self. 8) 8) 8)
Nice team of hooks you have there, magicman. :)
I have the 48" and 60" peavy in those same colors. You need to get those things to work and get the first scratches and scuffs on them. They just don't look right all smooth and polished. :D
Is that reflective tape under the handle?
Yes, 3M orange reflective tape. If I am late on a job, a flashlight will find them instantly. I have a wrap of it on most of my tools.
I might have to copy that idea....
I had a splash of red paint on the old ones because there really was no place for the tape.
These two new Logrites prove that our Sponsors do get value for their Pig Roast donations. smiley_thumbsup
Magic
You could send the primitive ones to Oregon ;D ;D ;D
You starting a museum ???
No Magic just appericate old tools ancestors had to use Just cant leave old world ;D ;D
Brian
:) I understand. Old stuff never dies, at least in our minds anyway.
I gave one of the new orange 48" cant hooks a good workout today. smiley_thumbsup

Brian
So you still have that little crank on the ol telephone too? ;D ;D
For some reason, my cant hooks always give me a good workout.
This reminds me that I have to buy another one for twisting hung up trees to the ground.
The two old cant hooks and the 5" peavey will now live at the tree farm. They will be used to adjust firewood logs for bucking, etc.
The short cant hook and smaller peavey (metal handle) will still travel with me. They will just have to "sit down, shut up, and hold on". :)
I have one of the 2 foot (old style) cant hooks and it still goes with me too!

Great Idea MM, I have an entire roll of SOLAS reflective tape that I've been looking for a use for. ;D
If you are in need of a plug for the end of your hook you can make one in minutes using a hole saw and hardwood.
This one in the picture has an eye bolt for clamping the two halves together while the glue dries but I'll replace it with a carriage bolt later, when I find one.
Kevin
How about a pic of where that plug goes? Didn't know they needed one. Just curious
It's just a cap for the handle tube.
I carry mine handle down and the foam grip is worn off on the end.
Now it will ride on the wooden cap and steel carriage bolt head.
beenthere
what pray tell is a telephone :D cranks start engines ???
I would guess the tape is there so you don't accidently saw through them (see related post below...). :D It's strange but I rarely use my cant hook- with the FEL and lift hooks plus hydraulics on the mill, I almost never have to arm strong anything.... or maybe I've just gotten lazy in my advancing years. :D
Lj
Some of us are not set up stationary and do not have access to a FEL. ;D
Ask Radar67 if the new Logrites were working yesterday ???
More like are the Logrites working Radar67. You missed your opportunity to get a picture of me using two at once. ;)
I have never seen a guy using Logrites like "chopsticks". :D He actually had one in each hand. I believe that those two new Orange Logrites got into his eyes. I counted then before he left. ;)
I got a very nice compliment on my Logrites on this week's road trip saw job. The customer's Mother was watching me unload the truck and prepare for sawing. When I lifted the three Logrites out, she saw them and commented that they looked very professional. This was from a lady that no idea what they were or what they might be used for. She only knew that she was impressed by them.
I continue to be also.
love my logrite....I have to say..I use two cant hooks at a time semi regularly...rolland hold with one and grab, hold and roll with the next...usually when I am trying to get a log over a hump or something...especially if I do not have my big iron breaker bar on hand...
Got chopsticks ???
yes I do..
I don't eat with the cant hooks though..lol
They are not made in China, so you do not need chopsticks :).
In Reply #40 above, I laughed at Dodgy Loner using two Logrites like chopsticks. Maybe it is "catching".

A new form of transportation, atop a log with a LogRite in each hand, just toolin' down the road...
<shrug> cheaper than skis..
me and my boys love my logrite. My 8 year old can roll logs with me onto the mill with it. it makes him feel real good to move a big log around just be having the right tool. sometime I want to get a 42" also.
Without the LogRite Megahook, I would have been toast today. But, I was able to turn a 24" red oak by myself, although it was a challenge ;D.
I usually use the tractor on those....or a chainsaw amd splitter...
One trick, with the LT-15 GO....I snagged the hook off a cheap cant hook, and stuck a screwgate carabiner on it...wrap the winch cable around a heavy log that I cannot turn, hook into the log amd tension the winch cable, then get on it with the logrite and move it as far as i can..then do it again. Sucks, but works.
