Title: Sawdogs
Post by: redbeard on January 08, 2012, 12:12:32 PM
It is another reality show on the Velocity channel on Saturday.  Its about chainsaw carvers. The main guy has a ranch  and he gets these high price jobs and turns his crew of carvers loose on them they work at the ranch. He will bring a specialty carver in on each show. I enjoyed it and there were some good laughs alot of fork lift problems on the first couple shows.

As one who uses a couple old propane fork trucks in the winter, I fail to see any humor in the problems.  ;)

The laughs I spoke of are the joking around and pranks the carvers do with eachother. They are having a good time as well as turning.out some spectacular art. The fork lift problems were getting them stuck and basically  the wrong equipment. End of the second show they had a extend a boom all terian. I bet that one finishess the season.

Oh how they elaborate and evangelise the miracle fuel  propane but evidently  they never had to deal with same in cold weather .  I'm not a fan of same myself from past bad experiance .

Forklift trucks are at the top of the list of abused machines, only time they get any attention is when they quit. Frank C.

(https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/22539/rps20120110_221400.jpg) when I went to our local farm store today to get some fuel there was a crowd in the parking lot watching some chainsaw carvers and I reconized Lynn Backus and her brothers so I took the opportunity  to go talk and finally meet her brother Steve. Had a good visit and some.possble sales of cedar he was happy to know about my sawmill  set up. Any way we got talking about Sawdogs tv show and he has been contacted already about a possible show. The Backus family is four generations of carvers. Steve has been on the road doing his trademark roadside chainsaw carving, you may have seen the Alstate insurance commercial  and he also teaches the carvers boot camp for Baileys. Picture is Steve and sister Lynn. I told them I was going to post it on Forestry forum so they will be famous. 8)

Another reality show. Wife had it on and somehow got on a show called stuffers. It was about stuffing animals, from pets to elk.Sounded interesting. She had it on for a few minutes, than they start talking about how he needs to get a job done by Friday and it was Wed and the help was out, etc. Told her to change it. Too much made up pressure for me.

I saw a bit of that. I have a friend who does some really marvelous woodcarvings using a chainsaw and other tools. Check out his website: http://hoganswoodcarvings.com/
