Title: If you want to build an automatic DIY band sharpener.
Post by: hackberry jake on March 08, 2012, 10:18:50 PM
I know a lot of the small time millers use face-only modified chainsaw sharpeners to sharpen their bands. It wouldn't be too hard to add a few things and convert it into something along these lines.

It uses a chainsaw sharpener head as well. I'll try to remember to take measurements of everything when I get home if anyone is interested.

That looks like something that's right down my alley.  A few good pictures would probably do.  Thanks, Eric

I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work just fine!

I'll also add, much cheaper than most conventional band saw sharpeners.

A person handy with his hands and working with metal should have no problem.Just wish I could have had a good look at one before I bought mine. A setter is even easier to build. Frank C.

As far as I know its legal for anyone to copy any device for their own use but not to sell for profit, that would be lower than whale turd. Frank C.

Wow, that looks like it really works.  I'm not a great metalworker, but interested if you post a plan.

Hope these help, If you need any measurements let me know. a lot of the connecting rods are adjustable, but I guess once you get them set correctly you wont have to change them, I hav'nt touched them since I've had it.

It's a dc motor, infinately variable, I'm not sure bout the 5000 rpm. I'm sure it goes through a worm gear reducer where the output shaft is. I might have had it turned up a little fast for the video. I'm always in a hurry.

DC motor with a rheostat so yep infantely varible.  I tired something similar with a 1750rpm non-brushed motor hooked up to a routerspeed controller...........last time I burnt something up 3 min out of the box was a was a rc airplane...........that poor thing never survived take off
