Post by: JOE.G on May 24, 2012, 09:35:32 AM
Hi, I am just wondering how does the HT 131 Pole Saw Compare to other Pole Saws in it's class? I have one and other people I know have them and I have never seen another one used.

Thanks

To compare, would almost have to find someone who has two different brands, one being the Stihl model.
How do you like yours?
Or are you looking for something better?

I like mine, I see the husky one is a bit lighter ( this thing does get heavy ) The husky seems to have a bit less power and I wish mine had a bit more power, I was just wondering If someone had the one I had and had used another one also, I have only put about a tank of fuel though it so I am sure it'll pick up some power.

I'm kinda looking at Stihl. I have no idea the model or price. Is that the one that will take a bunch of other attachments? I think it will reach 16 feet? I sure could use one around here at times. I cleaned up the branches on the other guys side last year and some are hitting me again from mowing around the field. About how much? Or do I want to know?  :o

I have had two of the Stihls and two of the Echo power pruners. The Echo are better. The diameter of the pole on the Stihl is a lot smaller than the Echo and is very flexible. Also the drive shaft inside the Stihl is smaller and is prone to twisting. Once that happens you can't extend of retract the pole sections. As for power they are both about the same. Also the bar oil fill hole is smaller on the Stihl and a lot harder to fill.

Bill, what model do you have, how many CC? I kinda need some reach. This nothing that I would use all day steady. My shoulder will not let me do any one job for too long.I have an old Echo trimmer, runs great. Had it for probably 25 years now and have used it ALOT. Only trouble I have ever had with it was the recoil broke on me. The whole thing was worn out. That just happened last year. I'm been waiting for it to die on me,but that thing keeps on running. It has served me well. I am clearing out an old pasture behind the house and I leave the oak trees for the wild life. As soon as I open them up they start to grow limbs everywhere. I could use a pole saw for them.

The Echo I have is the PPT 260 which has been replaced by the 265 now. The Stihl is the ht131.

I like my echo PPT 260 too.  I had wondered about the other brands and how they compared.

My first pruner was made by Power Pruner with an Echo motor. Echo then bought out Power Pruner and continued making them under that name. Being a Stihl man when they came out with their pruner I bought two of them. It didn't take long before I started having problems with the drive shaft twisting and with it fully extended the pole would bend very easy. Stihl came up with a fix for the twisting drive shaft. It was some kind of slip clutch that would not let the motor put full power to the chain. I thought they should do a recall to fix them but they would not. You had pay to get it fixed.

You may consider renting one before you buy a certain model. Check out any businesses that rent pole saws of different brands and rent different models/manufactures for a day and see which you prefer.

I have both the Stihl ht 101 and the Echo 265.Your Stihl should have a little more power than mine, but comparing mine to the Echo, the Stihl wins hands down.I've had trouble w/ my Echo from day one.
