Rolling a 24" Cedar Log up a embankment. I did not set the cant hook in properly and as I moved the handle forward, the hook slipped out and here came the log! The Cedar had 2 small knots on it and guess where they lined up? YEP! Right on the 'Ol Shin. It gouged the meat out of my leg and the skin was hanging on the 2 knots. I was flopping around on the ground like a Bass on hot pavement! 8) DanG blood going every where!
Got to be MORE CAREFUL! ;D

Shin injuries always hurt like the dickens!
Things like that happen to me every time I get near logs, boards or most anything else!I bet I gave at least a pint every year ,maybe more ;D ;D
Ouch!
That is rare for a LogRite to slip. Sorry to see that leg injury.
Now, a good place for chaps. :)
Ouch!, David. :( Sorry that happened. Glad it wasn't an oak. but then you wouldn't have been rolling an oak that size uphill.

I was not using a Logrite ::)......I was using a 4 foot wooden handle log cant I bought on sale at the local hardware store. :D I bought it before I knew about Logrites. I should have been using my Logrite!!!!!
Live and learn. smiley_swinging_board
David-That makes my shin hurt just thinking about it (and thanks for the pics right before diner ::)). I prescribe three days R&R.
Ouch! But it could have been worse. If your foot got pinned you could have a broken shin or a torn up knee.
You've earned a good sit down and a beer or six..........
Those are some scary looking legs .I think I would have just told the story and left the pix off.Spray it with some purple dog medicine and get back to work.
Ouch that looks sore. Keep the polysporin to it.
John
Ouch !!! If you plan to get old with all of your parts, ya gotta take better care of yourself. Those wooden handled things can't cant. Logrites can cant.

:D :D :D :D My wife says the gouge marks are an improvement. I had to post a pic......just to prove it happened, that's the rule. :D
Can't wait to here from SteamSawyer and WDH......Geeeeeee!
Carefull there Davey... That bark on your shins gets thinner with age.
I used to tell my boys when they were little, Rubb a little dirt in it... It will feel better when it quits hurting, now go back to playing.
Come on back down to Florida for some R&R.
Alan
Can you hear me now??
Go down and read my signature.... About the great minds...
Alan
All I am going to say is a buddy of mine wears shin guards any time he goes near a pile of wood.
Some people would have a very bad time if scared up like that.
Take care of your self .
Chris

I must have the same wooden handled cant hook(bought it in Vermont). That dang thing has put me on my butt more times than I can count and was the main reason I bought a Logrite....
Should we have a wood handled cant hook burning? :D
Almost the same thing happened to me., I didn't get hurt bad though , but i did get a nasty bruise. The next day I ordered two logrites.
Orders for logrite hooks just jumped 70%
Sorry for your leg, you will be walking like Chester
For a few days

Who could beat that advice :D.
The only problem is that I bet that you do not have any purple dogs, or any medicine specifically for purple dogs. So, if you have any brown dog medicine, try that hurt_smiley.

Yes, I am walking like Chester and I have NEVER heard of PURPLE DOG MEDICINE!
And if I had some PURPLE DOG MEDICINE, I'd be scared to use it for fear it would make me lay out in the wood yard and lick my......my......uh......wounds. Yeh, that's right....wounds. :D
To bad you gut hurt. the old pv just needs to be sharpen. like all wood working tools :)
David,
That is a visibly disturbing image that you conjured up :D.

Yeh, :D , You should feel this image on my side. :(
Sorry to hear about your injury. Wood is a difficult substance to deal with.
If you did tell me that you had some purple dogs, I would suspect that you were messing around with more than wood :).
That purple dog stuff is actually blue when you first spay spray it on.I think it is called Blu-cote and it is found in TSC among other places.
Don't be a woose Dave, it will eventually heal up and hair over, but I do want to know two things. Did you say any dirty words, and did you hurt that fine cedar? Remember, I don't have any cedar and I would hate to see one abused. ;D ;D

I did not hurt the Cedar. :)
In fact when it first happened, I looked down and saw two "canals" dug into my leg. No blood....no pain. I looked at the log and saw skin hanging off it. In .002 seconds I said, " DanG....This is gonna hurt!". And BAM....I could feel a paleness in my face and I just fell to the ground. Leg was burning like a forest fire and blood was gushing like a fire hose!
Not much time for dirty words.....mainly just foaming at the mouth. :D
Man that makes my leg hurt. Now its time to hang that hook on the barn door with a sign under it saying, do not use dangerous tool. It makes me even gladder that I bought a logrite. bg

I was going to suggest something stronger, like Absorbine liniment for horses. That'll make you hop around the mill right quick. ;D
Why were'nt you using 2 cant hooks? One to hold while you set the other? You can poke one in the ground to keep a log off you.
Best if they were two Logrites. :)
Ouch!!
My dad's favorite wound treatment was the purple horse medicine. You learned very quickly not to whine about an injury!
Blu-cote. That is some nasty stuff. You don't wash that stuff off,you wear it off. :D Glad to see it's not magicman this time. He was having a hard time there for a while. Are you next in line? I made some,Man That Hurts, faces as I was reading this. Was you in shorts at the time all this happened?
sorry to hear that you got hurt! Looks painful.
However, your timing is good as we are having a sale on 48" Cant hooks.
Follow the link on the top of the page.
Tammy
Yup, this is why I purchased a pair of catchers shin guards many years ago, just threw the originals out and bought a new pair. Not saying I wear them all the time although they have saved my legs too many times to count.
If you get a pair that fit well, after a while you don't even know they are on. Protect the tops of feet as well.
Stay Safe and Be Well

David, you know why dogs lie around and lick themselves don't you?....Because they can! :D :D :D

I did get a little sympathy last night and was doing good until my son came in and said "Daddy, there is a man outside wanting to talk to you about buying some lumber".
I jumped up and ran to the door like a Buck chasing a Doe.
It was like ......yep......It looks like Chester (from Gunsmoke) has been healed. I was "BUSTED". ;D ;D ;D
I used my LOGRITE today.....NO INJURIES. I think I will retire the Old Woody and hang it on the barn door.
That would be a good way to preserve the Old Woody ;D
Ouch, David, Ouch! Things can happen fast when working with logs. Glad it wasn't worse.
Sorry about the injury, Poston, I have a bad habit of rolling logs with a wood cant hook and scotching with the steel toe of my boot. Logs and gravity are rough on the body parts.

There is also a trick to bracing the log with your knee while clamping the log on a manual mill :D.

Dang POSTONLT40HD I would have took you for a LogRite'r from the git go Im contacting Tammy as I type! Really hope the jump for the wood buyer was a great sell. at least bought some triple antibiotic cream its not funny but Im still going to Laugh ;D
lmlao, this is the main reason I 'lead' with my right leg....after some serious attention in 2000 it aint got feelin anymore, the blood still happens, the skin still comes off, the scabs still develop and the scarsstill add up but the feeling dont come through to the command centre ;D ;D ;D
We all have to remember with any cant/peavy their only as good as the bark their going into, none are infalible, sawyer beware. Frank C.
