Title: My mill is a man now
Post by: Ocklawahaboy on February 02, 2013, 04:51:54 PM
I think my mill achieved manhood today.  I went to my first customer's house to mill what I was picturing as a little cherry log.  It ended up being 17' long and almost 2' at the big end.  It gave the manual winch a workout.  Before I go to do his big oak log, I'm going to have to get my electric winch installed.

The log was too big for us to try to get a square cant out of and it had too much bend too.  We had to take almost half the log off in slabs before we could turn it with the cant hook.  I would have preferred to cut it at the bend and have two logs that were straighter but that's not what customer wanted.

The little winch that could!

The customer wanted one natural edge and one square edge.  One less cut for me to make.

Looks a lot like my 1987 lt30, 'cept I can barely fit a 16' on.  :)

That's pretty straight for a yard tree cherry, nice job.

Don't let your mill hear you calling her a man or she'll start misbehaving on you.

Congratulations on your first customer.
