Title: Mattress
Post by: lumberjack48 on February 12, 2013, 02:08:49 PM
If any of you gentlemen have a loved one or a friend that spends a lot of time in bed they absolutely need one of these.
It is an alternating air mattress, it helps prevent bed sores. I had to be turned every two hours to prevent pressure sores. When using the air mattress i don't have to be turned at all, its a godsend.
I'm used one for 20 yrs, the mattress and pump last 2 to 3 yrs running 24/7.

The air mattress has dropped in price, something like 200 percent in cost over the yrs. I had to replace mine last week, the cost was under $50. with free shipping if you spent $50. At this price the nursing homes should have one on every bed, they don't. A pressure sore is hard to treat and sometimes causes death. I don't understand what they don't get.

I just visited a forester friend of mine who's in the rehab wing of the nursing home here and he had one of those on his bed. He had me lay on it to get the feel of it. Felt good!

When Hospice came in a few years ago to assist with my father, they provided one of those beds and mattresses. He could raise his legs or upper body with a touch of a button.  It worked very well for him. When he passed away, the bed was there for a few days before they could come and get it.

Several times, I was tempted to give it a try,  but, I just couldn't do it.

My mother in law has one on her bed right now, she grumbles about it but Ive sat on it and it was like a feather bed to me.
