Title: Caught up - for the moment
Post by: Bibbyman on March 15, 2013, 08:29:10 AM
Day before yesterday we finished up the last of our custom sawing orders and yesterday we sawed out two limber orders.    8)

We're starting on a load of ties here in a bit so we have plenty of work we can do. It's just great to have the custom stuff caught up.  I can't remember when the last time that has happened. I don't expect it to last long.  We have quoted several jobs and just waiting for the phone to ring.

You're right Bib. I don't like a bunch of custom jobs waiting in a line. I have 3 more to do to get caught up but during that time, I sure more will come in.....gonna hit 70° today, so the phone will be ringing.

I'd love to see 70° today, in this shop it would be nice as it was 19° outside when I got into my truck this morning.

I'm still sawing out three more trailers for the big paving company, I have one done and two new lumber orders came in this week. One small three piece order and another trailer deck.

It's fun to be busy.

Had a wooden boat builder call yesterday he wanted to stop by with some friends.

They stopped by and the friend wanted 40 pieces of 1x12x8 for a woodworking shop floor.
I asked him why all 8' long. He said his shop was 24' and thought it would work out.
I sold him 20 pieces of 1x12x12 from stock, nice sale and they paid cash......

So, the customer wanted 480 BF to do the job and wound up with 240 BF?

Not sure you got the better end of the deal  :o

And I always thought you Yankees were supposed to be SHARP!  :D

I didn't do the math. The customer did.
He said he wanted 20 pieces so I sold him 20.
If I have figured the coverage I'd say you're right and I would have sold him more.

They called and made an appointment for 5 pm as I was busy with an online meeting from 3:45 pm to 5 pm.
They showed up at 4:38 pm and stood around for 20 minutes waiting for me to come out of the office.
When I did they were in a hurry to get going to the bar.....

So I sold them what they wanted.

When he figures out he didn't get enough I'm sure he'll be back.
He now knows where I am and what I got.

You're right!

That'll teach me to quit using my head to do the math.

Jim,

Maybe he used the same calculator I used!  :D
