I wanted to pitch this idea to you guys at Logrite...
This is a modified cant hook to be used for rolling timbers that you don't want to "bite" into and leave marks on finished beams. The tip and the point of the hook are replaced with replaceable rubber skate stoppers.
As a timber-framer, I know that I would use one to roll timbers in the shop, at the jobsite, or off my friend's mill.
What are your thoughts?

A heavy durometer rubber may do the trick, especially if it were molded to a bolt. This would allow for easy replacement.
Yes, this is what I've been asking for, to ease the heavy slabs over on the mill. My hydraulic claw turner chews them up.
Kevin said it would be easy enough to try. I'll keep on him. He is very busy right now as he is developing a new item for Stihl. Shh as it is top secret. ;D

"I'm getting one!"
"Pippin, you've had a whole half already!"

Won't hook makes me think won't work, maybe Cant bite, Cant mark, Won't bite, so you don't have to say " pass me the cant hook with the rubber thingies on it".
"The Gentle Hooker"
Cant hugger.
Cant catalyst.
"The diplomat"
Cant turner
Cant wrench
The Australian variant is a Cant Spanner.
They already have a t-shirt that says "I'm a Logrite Hooker" So my suggestion kinda already fits in. ;D

I realize that, but I meant they could export it to Australia and market it as the cant spanner. Since Australians say spanner instead of wrench, for some reason.
In that case they could call it the gentle rooter. :)
Whoa. :-X
:D
Ha,Ha,Ha,...Good Times!
Can we get back on track now?
Is this concept something that you guys at Logrite might try to develope?
My curiosity is killing me!!!
Thanks,
Rooster

There is your answer, Rooster. ;D
Would the piece on the bottom end of the handle be a snubbie?
r.man,
What's your definition of a "snubbie"?
Sounds expensive and exotic! :D
Rooster
I'm afraid I started something I shouldn't have. :D :D
We could talk about cant positioning devices.
Too much pressure ;D
Kevin ordered some rubber guards to test.
I'll keep you posted on how it works.
The rubber pads might need to be a little bigger, and/or straight-edged in shape. ;)
I burst out loud laughing when I read "The Gentle Hooker".
You know the old saying Rooster, you want something done or done right....
Try hockey pucks dirt cheap and available. Frank C.
I'm still scarring my cants. My customers don't like seeing the holes in the wood. :-\
Keep chasing it... you'll get it.
When sawing timbers and I have to roll with a cant hook, usually because they are 30' long or longer, I only put the hook in the last inch or two of timber. That way the hook holes will be docked off during framing.
I know you all are trying to add something to the point. But what about a strap wrench? I think that what it's called. I saw them at work to remove water filters canisters. I don't know if you could release it when the log was almost flipped over though. :o
thecfarm, I posted this a couple years ago:

But I think Rooster was looking to try something quicker. The strap has to be looped around the timber and the handle slid through each time. A "can't hook" would theoretically drop right on the timber like a cant hook would.
