I think mine's pretty self explanatory. ;)
I'm following Ron's example, besides, if I just used my last name, it could have some connotation that I was full of something.... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :snowball: :snowball: :snowball: :snowball: :snowball: :snowball: ;)

Mine goes back aways to my school days. I used to be teased and picked on for my Dutch heritage. The saying around here goes... "Wooden shoes, Wooden Head, Wouldn't listen".
At the beginning of high school I was often may fun of for being a dumb Dutchman. No one teased or said anything about dumb Dutchman again after I graduated with the highest average. ;)
There may be some truth to the "wouldn't listen". I can be a bit stubborn, but I prefer to call it "determined". :D
Just part of my email address. My wife and I have a modified Toyota pick up that we like to go wheeling in. Our addresses are 4wheelingguy/4wheelinggirl. I just needed something easy to remember.

This place was called The Farm growing up. My Grandmother broke her hip in '76 and moved off The Farm. Growing up we was always going to The Farm to work in the garden, cut wood, mow the fields. We built a house here in 2000. The old farm house is still standing across the road. We just needed another letter for our email, thefarm was all ready in use,we just added a "c' and became thecfarm. The c is my last name Crane. We do sell veggies here and the wife makes biscuits and jams.
I am living my dream. growing up I wanted to come here and live.
Axe Handle Hound is one of the many "fearsome critters" made up by loggers way back. My grandfather used to carry on about axe handle hounds, key birds, snow snakes and the like when I was a kid and I loved spending time with him so it's just a tribute to his crazy stories.
I guess I got lucky to get Jeff considering what other names in the family are a bit different, starting with my Mother's which was Zula.

Mine comes from my restaurant days. One of my employees called me the Kingcha. When I started playing poker online I needed a handle and I went with it. It has stuck with me. I also go by Chatty Matty which was given to my by a nice lady at the poker tables.

I earn a living building customer furniture, cabinets, and wooden hand planes. My hockey number has always been #9, mainly because Bobby Hull of the Blackhawks was my childhood idol.

Mine is the portable sawmill service I started in 2007.
Grew up in Ohio, live in the desert.
First it was the "Lumber-maker" trom the CB days, After sawing out the chainsaw shop with a chainsaw I was now a "Two-Legged-Sawmill". Roof line 72ft x130ft lots of saw dust!
mine is my road and custom sawing service/lumber sales.
Name I came up with for my construction business back in '99 when we incorporated...at the time I thought it's how we want to make our clients look to their customers or whoever it is they have to answer too...still holds true today.
Also seems to set a standard for us as a small company on how we present ourselves and treat those that we come in contact with...
Mine is easy to explain. :D :D
Welcome to the Forestry Forum, two-legged-sawmill.
There's getting to be quite a list of sawyers from New York.
My life long nick-name and middle initial.
In the early days I was a forester for the Great State of Texas, gave classes for schools, scouts, camp fire girls, etc. I was usually intrduced as a "forest ranger" rather a simple forester (careful with the responce about "simple" ::) ) I digress, being from Texas and needed a handle for the web, so there 'tis.
Also shortened to TRanger.
It's the same handle I used on a site about the great sport of ice fishing. I bougt my portable hut from Otter Outdoors . Most of them are green or blue ,but somehow they sent me a purple one. I just kept it ,which is ok because when someone wants to fish with me I just tell them to look for the only purple hut. :D
Called a friend, his wife answered. She asked how I was enjoying my new hobby. Told her husband, "Honey, its Tom, the sawyer. smiley_lit_bulb"
I was a fan of Mark Twain :P, my name is Tom and I saw - no way I'd pass that up. smiley_thumbsup smiley_thumbsup

The name of my farm.
Nicholson Wood Products.
I like to duck hunt and love training labradors.
I live in Francis, OK and I milk cows!
Kind of a long story but here goes.
I married a woman in Fl who's Grandfather was a native. He spent a lot of time in the Everglades. I, being a mechanic, and he, being a retired Fire Chief, got along so well that he would tell my wife the weekends we were going to the Glades.( she usually joined us) I was put in charge of making sure all the swampbuggy's were working and I was the one who repaired and modified them for all the uncles, cousins, family..you get the picture. One day we were riding in the Glades and came upon an old hunting camp. Poor fellow who owned it had taken his life there and behind it was an old buggy that hadn't run in years. Granddad said " Boy, I ain't seen any buggy that you couldn't fix, but I think that one is too far gone, even for you". Long story short, duct tape, bailing wire, and a makeshift valve keeper was all I needed to drive it back to camp. I don't know who was smiling more, me or him! Anyways, that was before the internet and when the first computer was bought my daughter suggested "Swampbuggy" because that's what Granddaddy called me. Guess it kind of stuck. I don't do much buggying anymore, but my mill is in the woods, that's were I think I am the happiest!
Not much to say , been making patterns, molds & models for awhile 8)
scottmphoto... My name is Scott and I used to be a professional photographer/photojournalist. I still love making photos and do a few weddings and portraits a year but I got burnt out working 80-90 hours a week for my local newspaper. I quit the job, switched my major from journalism to parks and recreation with a natural resource emphasis (I thought this might help my dad). Before my dad passed away, he started working his property as a tree farm. Now, that's what I do with my share (90 acres). I love being out in the woods so much, always have. Between working the "farm", doing a few odd jobs and the Boy Scouts of America, I still stay very busy... but I am happier now and MUCH less stressed out.
WooDeNCaNOes -had to get into milling to get the best cedar for them and all that has led to the wondrously long and winding road of this life.
It's a Biblical/Masonic thing. Freemasonry is supposed to have began with the building of King Solomons Temple. It is a favorite Bible Story of mine ,so when the subject comes up in Sunday School, I am in the conversation. We have a half dozen Masons in My class and around 40 Masons in My church.
Well.... We were disscussing the Solomons Temple and I interjected in the disscussion and One of the Masonic Brothers in my Sunday School Class said, "That's a fact Solomon" and it stuck. It became a nick name that is used infrequently.
Well the reason Al Smith is Al_Smith is because the soft ware doesn't respond to spaces .
The reason the location is listed as a giant midwestern corn field is because it's exactly what it is .
I always have a bad case of hathead. When my boys were small, the younger one said " Dad looks like a rooster" ;D Then, I worked at a chemical plant and when I'd take my hardhat off, they called me rooster.
I hadf to use 58 because there is a rooster already. 58 is my birthyear ;)

It's where I live. Most folks think Louisiana is all swamp - not true. The northern third of the state is rolling red clay hills that grows some of the finest pine timber anywhere. And I have 200+ acres of it and a sawmill.

People are always driving up wanting to know where the sawmill man is. So I guess I am the sawmill man.
Pretty simple my initials and I like oaks that is why we bought our camp in
Live oak. We call it oak island to me full of treasure to her the money pit
My name is Randy. Several years ago I worked with a man from Brazil. He always called me Rando and now everyone does here in town.
Finally one day he heard someone call me Randy. In Portuguese he said, "You're my friend for 3 years and I didn't know your name was Randy? Oh Rando!"
He went back to Brazil and I use that name proudly to this day.
I was a millright/ machinist for 35 years
I stake mining claims .
One day I was playing hooky from work with a female friend of mine and we decided to go fishing. I took the Lasen Senza to a quiet part of the lake. I would throw the anchor out and drift till the line had no slack, thenn throw it again. This went on forr a while until it started to rain. I told her to pull everything in and I would get the boat started. I finally got the 115 merc going. I asked her if she had pulled in everything. "Yes" was her answer.. I opened up the throttle and took off for the boat ramp when, BANG. something hit me in the back of the head. Blood was running down my chest. when I looked over at her she had the 8lb dansforth anchoor in her hand, staring at me with this stupid look on her face. She never pulled in the anchor. when I took off and the anchor got to the end of it's rope, it sprang out of the water and hit me in the back of the head. Loudest thing i ever heard. 23 stiches later, i still question if she hit me with it.
anchorhd
23 stiches!!! That must of split you just about wide open. :o It's not funny,but..........
Just the way you told what happened. As I was reading it,I did not expect that to happen. Still have the female friend?
Cfarm, you beat me to it. Curiosity about whether you still have her as a friend.
Anchor, inquiring minds gotta know. :D :D
That's a lot of stitches.
My initials, J.E.M., and one of the tree related things I do is climb to remove trees from from around buildings and wires and where ever they need to be removed or pruned. Usually they have to be climbed because of no access with a bucket.
For a short time after high school, I worked at a sawmill with my older brother. He had been working there longer than I had so he helped me on wood identification. I forgot the name of hackberry or mis-judged hackberry a couple times so he yelled at me and said "see how the bark looks like cat turds? cat turds hackberry, cat turds hackberry!" I will now have that etched in my brain forever. Now anytime hackberry comes up in conversation I can't help but laugh.
Sure must have either had different cats than I am familiar with, or the hackberry bark looks a lot different there. ;D
Mine seems obvious but probably isn't.
The Marine part every gets but the 'ol' isn't a reference to my age (47) but rather the difference in age to those serving with me in the Army when I left Civilian life after serving in the Corps for 5 1/2 years and then leaving it for 'greener pastures' only to return over 5 years later to serve in the Army. At the time I was 31 and a PFC with a 'salad bowl' for my prior service. Friends often called me "old man" or "old jarhead" because I was 5 or 6 years older then the next oldest soldier in the group I hung around with (all prior service guys) and usually 10 years older then most of the Army folks in the my pay grade.
I picked up Sergeant within a year of returning to the military (All I ever wanted was to be a Sgt -- I loved it) and even still was older then my peers. In fact, had I not left the service back in '91 after Desert Storm I'd have likely made Gunnery Sergeant by the late 90's (or earlier) as a friend of mine from the Corps did and I was that age.
At once point my Army nickname became 'Gunny' but over the years I've just stuck with 'old jarhead' or 'oljarhead' depending on the forum....I guess it suits me ;)
So that's the story of my 'handle'.
Erik
My first car was a '64 Falcon Hardtop. 289 and a 4 speed. In the small town I grew up in, it was the only 4 speed car in the early 90's in the area. (That wasn't a trailer queen hidden in a garage) I still have the car. Of course, it hasn't been mobile for 15 years...

In my first job out of school, I was buying and marking pine pulpwood stands for shortwood crews (single axle trucks - five foot wood - loaded by hand or big stick loader). One of my crews never called me by my name......they referred to me as the "Woodman". Registering for AOL years ago, "Woodman" was not available, so I changed it to "Wudman". It's kinda stuck with me.

Were ready! I've reserved as many letters as you need. :D
Ha! Ok, the story is now mandated by the boss! ;)
The short version is that I am by blood a Threlkeld (English/Danish name), but when my grandfather was just a toddler, his father was killed (kicked in the head by a horse! :embarassed:) and as a result, my grandpa's mother lost her mind. The extended family members nabbed up the older Threlkeld kids to help on the farms, but no one wanted the little Fred Threlkeld, so he ended up in an orphanage, where he was adopted by the Mooney family.
So my grandfather was Fred Threlkeld Mooney, my dad was Eric Threlkeld Mooney, and I'm Jake Threlkeld Mooney! :o
It's a great conversation starter during awkward silences... :D
Mooney, you going to be to the pig roast this year? ;D ;D

When I was in the military my name tag was D.D. Cunningham. First D for David, second D for Duane so I shortened it to ddcuning. One day a general from the Pentagon came to visit our shop in Germany and had about 10 full bird colonels in tow. He asked me what the D.D. stood for and I told him my mama stuttered and that it was Du Dave. He thought it is was funny but the 10 colonels and my boss didn't so I got my backside chewed out and had to do lots of extra chores around the shop for a few weeks.
I like that general, and your answer. :)
I've been pyrocasto online since the birth of forums, just kinda stuck with me. I grew up with a serious love for all things fire, which turned into me shooting fireworks professionally for a while. High School Nickname. Senior year I directed the daily news program our school aired at the end of each day. Most of the time it was just a boring reading of school news, sports scores and upcoming events. On Fridays we decided to do start doing the news in different themes. Trying to make it funny and more watchable. One of the themes we did was hiphop. We basically read the news with more an "urban flair." After the show when the credits rolled my name rolled first, but this time it read "Directed by J Swigga Lockdog" Naturally everyone in school saw it and started called me J Swigga. Eventually it just became Swigga. I didn't mind the name so I didn't fight it.

I retired when overseas work played out for me and I had too much time on my hands to fill with babysitting, fishing, hunting and honey-do projects (Actually never would get all those done but I put too many in the "ignore" basket) and those Woodmizer cards kept coming from an inquiry many years before so I stopped by the Albermarle NC office in October as a side trip to see our daughter in Charlotte and ordered my mill the same day. I had never seen one in operation till Tyler brought mine and did the demo for me and my son. BTW - it was January 8th and had warmed up to nearly 5 degrees when he got here with it. The lube tank was a solid block of ice and the oil was thick and made the mill hard to start, it backfired and blew the spark arrestor 50 away into 6" of snow but I found it when the snow melted.
Since I live in WV and was now a Sawmiller it seemed like a natural selection.
Fortunately between the time I ordered the mill and delivery I found this site and read everything in the Sawmills and Milling Thread and Tom and MM had me thinking I was ready to go.
I was named for a much loved old uncle whose name was Martin. Everyone referred to him as Mart or Uncle Mart.
Growing up my nickname was always Mart. I go by Marty for the most part now. My wife refuses to call me Mart as her first husband was named Mark and it creeps her out to call me Mart. My Mom still calls me Mart and my Dad always did when he was still alive. A couple of nephews have picked it up as well.
Mine is a nickname from high school. Last name is Josephson so Josey was what a friend called me. From there it went to outlaw from the movie Outlaw Josey Wales

I'd like to use John as my user name, but that is usually taken. So "John S", but that was taken here (and most other sites). So, I would try JohnSaw (part of my last name). Still taken on a lot of sites. So I through in my first initial - LJohnSaw. I use that pretty much everywhere. However, I typed it in lower case when I signed up on the FF - ljohnsaw. Most people read it as "I, John, Saw" - which is actually pretty appropriate for this forum! ;)

I had always used JAFO on all online forums, but that was taken here, mush to my chagrin. Most folks understand the acronym. So pressed to come up with something new I came up with what I have here because lets face it, the older I get the more more I realize there is to learn. I enjoy learning, knowledge is power and no matter how much you know, there is always more to learn. Perhaps, deep down, it was in defiance of all these youngsters that are coming into the workforce who seem to know everything. I find myself working now with a 28 year old (4 whole years in the trade) who keeps telling me "yeah, I know, this isn't my first rodeo, you know?" To which I have replied "Well, I have been doing this for 48 years and I treat every 'rodeo' like it is my first". so maybe it came from that I dunno. I could have come up with something witty like many of you folks, but that's my story and I am sticking to it.

Is because we grow apples to zucchini on our farm .
For generations farms grew just about a little of everything and were self sustainable. We also have Herefords and bison that we sell at our trading post .i got the sawdust thing from my dad he built many apartments and restored old houses for rental income to help us during the low commodity and milk prices .

I have a couple but long story short 51cub that I use here is because I have one
let's see.......I'm swiss/german with some serious english overtones....so to choose anything other than a classic greek moniket would be.....well....idiotic!!
Hey Guy's, newbie here. Came upon this site about a year ago. Fantastic people here, Gene Wengert, Magicman, Custom Sawyer, Yellowhammer, 4x4. Just to name a few. Can't get enough info, :P spend hours soaking up all I can. Hope to have a mill soon. Looking at the Cooks AC-36. Anyway, I'm a Demolition Contractor hence the handle Demoman. Would love to meet you folks at one of the events Ya'll have.
RAYmond ARseneault ... that simple and it's a >>>radar<<< name from my name. ;)
Gearbox because I have been working on some kind of gearbox or shifting one since I got a drivers license in 1961.
My name is Dean and most jobs I've had someone would end up calling me "Mean Dean". When I joined a Motorcycle club it was official. Some would say it's like calling a big man Tiny.
Crossroads because life is about choices...
The size of my lot and type of soil.
I always knew you was gritty.
I'm from New England, have been called the wood guy more than once because I'm always working with it in some form and was born in 78
Newwood, I graduated high school in 78. I see it is cause you are from new England, but do think you want to transition to old wood at some point? nice handle.
You want some irony?
I don't even own a sawmill. But, I'm an automation specialist/production supervisor at a large sawmill. For some reason I used the handle at an automation forum and I decided to use it here as well. Now in my defense, I am building a wide sawmill and I will post pictures once it's cutting. I'm a little over halfway done.
Now, if I were to register today, I would probably just use my name.
Which is Lucas by the way.
Hope to meet quite a few of you guys in 2 weeks.
Doc I refuse to give in to the thought of getting old even if looking in the mirror tells me otherwise :D
CabinCreations... looking back I am not sure what I was thinking :D
I have always enjoyed woodworking so when my wife and I bought our property in November 2017, I thought I could finally take a shot at having that woodworking hobby that paid for itself instead of putting us into debt. Since there is a historic cabin on the property, I thought "Cabin Creations" would be a great small business name.
The property also has an old circle mill that I want to restore to mill some of the trees on the property and use the lumber for some of the woodworking projects. I thought that cutting down the tress, milling it on an old mill I restored and then building something with it would really be a neat process. As I began researching the old circle mill, most of the information I needed seemed to be coming from the FF - so I joined and went with that small business name for my handle.
I quickly became fascinated with milling after spending WAY too much time (is that possible?) reading on the forum and had a complete change in direction about what I wanted to do with woodworking. Now, on top of still taking baby steps to restore the circle mill, I have bought a used portable bandsaw mill (pick-up on Saturday! 8)) with the intention to do some local portable jobs.
CabinCreations no longer really fits with the direction I am now taking, but oh well! If I could do it again, I too would just use my name.
I really enjoy the forum and look forward to meeting some of you in the future.
Name of our farms. Tree and horse farm in Rhode Island and a beef farm in Vermont. Mariann liked the name from the first time I proposed it. She says every person is permitted one original thought/idea in their life. The geniuses of mankind like Einstein are allowed two or maybe even three. Looks like I wasted mine coming up with the name Rhodemont.
Tacks, the families name. Tom, Amy, Sharaya, Keith, Christa, myself-wife-oldest daughter-son- youngest daughter. Last name is Yaegle.
Mine is easy. It's my last name. Anyone by my last name is either my direct family member or one of their family members. (Brothers kids)
Well at least you carry on your name. I am not related to anyone,by my last name. Been one son for 3 generations.
::) ::) ::)
Above was the explanation of my handle. Nothing thecfarm said.
This, is Boone. He's a little possessive about the yard, sends foreign critters a-packin if they don't belong here. Soooo, the name ;) (https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/49257/Boone.jpg?easyrotate_cache=1553551193)
....in honor of my Pops, who purchased the family farm/land in '57, after my dairy farmer great-grandfather lost it 10 years following the hurricane of '38. Pops registered as a Tree Farm in '57 and lovingly worked every acre and won New Hampshire Tree Farmer of the Year in 1978, hence 78NHTFY. He died in '99. My wife and I live here now and see the care and love he put into the place every time we go out in the woods. Woods cabins, culverts, ponds, 1/2 mile of rebuilt stone walls by hand, lots of trails for walking, X-country skiing, biking--most named after classical composers: Mozart, Beethoven, "Rock"maninoff. :D. He would have loved this forum too!!! Our kids will hopefully be the fifth generation to live here and in August we are expecting the first of the sixth generation 8) 8). (Sorry, so happy, couldn't help it...). All the best, Rob.
Mine comes for a nickname that they use for my trade. Been an reinforcing Ironworker for 30 years. Been managing a rebar fabrication yard for 10 years now & also have a small rebar install company.
My boat is also called the RODMAN
Just want to say thanks to Jeff for this awesome forum & all the people on here for your knowledge & adventures. This forum is just as addictive as my sawdust addiction, be it on my mill or in my shop.
Hope you all have a great year. WORK SMART & PLAY SAFE
All the best
Les
When I first started sawing with the mobile dimension mill the mill owner Hans nicknamed me "hack and chop " then when I bought the mill from him I called the business Portable Custom Sawmilling he referred to the business as hacknchop sawmilling .
Sorry, no interesting story; just my name and zip code.
The kc are my initials (Kevin Clark) and I was a farm and timberland real estate broker part time at my Father In Law's Real Estate Company Z-Best Realty. My assigned user ID for our local MLS system was kczbest so I used it here too.
Like previous posters said "if I could do it again I would just use my real name" hay wait I did! I'm ahead of the game for once.

......I'm the hand off an ol' cow......?
Then shouldn't you be called hoof? ;D
I farm full time with my dad and uncle and it's always been a part of my life and I was 29 years old when I joined the Fourm just tried to go with something easy to remember.
Not much to explain, my name is ken and I live in Maine.
I signed up here in 2003. Back then, the internet was a new thing for me and I didn't realize I should be using a "moniker ". As long as it stays the same, it don't really matter the name. What we say is much more important 🤓
A little goofy, but... My wife and I used to make wooden snowshoes, called our "company" Heritage Snowshoes. That was shortened to "hersnsh" for a variety of uses. #590 is our road address. I'd probably change the moniker if I could.

Forgive me, here in New England we don't have real cow hands, cattle rustlers, or cow punchers. We have dairy farmers. Not a real exciting vocation, but very important just the same. I grew up next door to a 40 cow farm. The bottling machines would start at 3:30 am every morning. Their all gone now, cows, farmer, farmers wife, son and farm hand!
I was raised in Rockmart Ga. We used to go out in the woods to a place we called flatrock with a big rock by a creek. 58 is my birth year.
It's my last name. Everyone has called me by it since I was about 15 because my father and I where the only ones around these parts. Now it's just me, my wife and our 4 kids. My oldest daughter takes real pride in it! ;D

Looking at the way this transpired, I'm glad I didn't adopt the handle "olcowpoke".
I've been to some rodeos out east (of course, that was years ago....) where there were some cow- folk present. Not just Rodeo Cowboys, but some real ones..... They're around.
I used my name, That way if you hate or love me you will always remember me. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D ;) ;D
The E is for my first name and my last name is troup. The 10 is just a number added on.
When I was younger, I loved home projects. Today, not so much. Left the s off when I was registering, should have been iluvhomeprojects!!!

Just part of my name Mike TOOmey and some easy to remember numbers 747. I use it for e-mail and some other websites.

Pretty simple
As in Caterpillar D6c dozer....the other way I get free of any excess time and money.
When the forum was new there were about 15 members at the time. Best I can remember I started to sign up as just Don, well, Staples was already Don S so I added my last initial. Being an old fart somewhere along the way he forgot his password so switched to a more complicated one :D. Actually I forgot my original signup info and signed back up too ::), I think that was when I put in a underscore dash, can't really remember. Tom signed up the same evening after Jeff posted on woodweb that day.
I enjoy flying!
Initials plus area code.
K-Guy + Kiln Guy
"That SOB Stan from Nyle " wouldn't fit. :D
how about the flag??? @K-Guy (http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=35658)
I was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. That's my provinces flag and proud to be Albertan.
My first couple cars were VW bugs when I was 13. I have had many over the years and a TON of parts. Bugs and parts, Bug Gutz.
What D6c said, except the Diesel Forty is the great granddaddy of his D6.
I ain't sayin' .... it's classified ..... so is my location.
Name and birth year simple

I did get a good laugh with that one. Wasn't paying attention & after I seen the picture of the bars i scrolled back up to your name.
Navy Supply Corps Officer "Pork Chop", being called Chops is pretty common. Battle got added during my tour in Iraq years ago. On another note, just submitted my retirement paperwork for next year and hope to buy a sawmill shortly thereafter.

Used my favorite guitar as my handle. Looks and sounds different than the rest. (Just like me). ;D
shiny!!! 8) :)
Logger RK, prior to this winter I had only bent 1 chainsaw bar, and 1 processor bar. I spent a lot of time in a processor this winter, in hardwood and nasty wolf popple. That's where that pile of dead soldiers comes from😊
I kind of thought it was from arm wrestling at the bar.
Tried transfusions, but the dust in my blood is here to stay. It's been so long now in the wood I'm realizing its all I know.
I need to take up knitting or crack. They'd be cheaper.
I really like woodworking but I'm not very good at it. Fortunately, the stoves don't care what it looks like.
