Greetings again from Japan.
I have an old Husqvarna 185CD, I'm in the process of refreshing it once again, I Don't use it often, but when I do I need it, as it is the saw I run on my mill.
I'd not run it in about five years :o and unfortunately when it was last run, a friend borrowed it, this friend knows chainsaws and when I checked the fuel tank it was empty, I asked him if he had run it empty and he said he had dumped out the fuel and then ran it a min to clear any fuel in the carb etc. I don't think this worked, as the fuel line was like jelly, and I think I'm going to have to rebuild the carb again too.

Yep, that is not going to work is it.
When I had the chain and bar off, I thought I'd check the oil pump, to see how it was doing and also to make sure it was set on the Max oil configuration, it was. To check this I had to take off the drive sprocket, or it is a drive drum? It's all one big (Expensive?) piece, not just a small sprocket :-\

It sure does look worn, not going to be wanting to put a new chain on that if I can help it.
While I was cleaning this item, I heard something drop and hit the bench top, uh-oh :(
Yep, trouble.....

Now way around it, I need a new one of these drive sprocket drum units.
The Husqvarna 185CD IPL lists the number as "501 54 02-01" the 3/8" x 8 option. When I search for this part in Baileys I get nothing. I'm wondering if the part has been replaced, upgraded or what?
If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it, I've got a large order ready to go to Baileys but if I cannot get this part, then what's the point of ordering a new chain and bar?
Cheers!
I don't know if this helps me or not, but I found the Husqvarna 2100CD uses the same part number for it's drive sprocket drum.
OK some more digging and I found this page...
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/clutch-drum-spur-p-618931.html
it says the part is obsolete/discontinued, but it also says that the part is compatible with these saws:
Husqvarna
298 (1987-01) Chainsaw
298 (1987-06) Chainsaw
281 (1988-01) Chainsaw

288 (1989-02) Chainsaw
288 (1990-01) Chainsaw
288 (1991-04) Chainsaw
298 (1986-04) Chainsaw
181 (1983-12) Chainsaw
181 (1984-02) Chainsaw
181 (1985-03) Chainsaw

2100 (1981-10) Chainsaw
2100 (1982-11) Chainsaw
2100 CD (1979-12) Chainsaw
If this information is correct, then there must be a newer part available, no?
This is becoming a real treasure hunt!
I found this page....
http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=ORF+28094X&catID=
Now the item has a picture, and if the drum is like the picture, it will not work, but maybe they just put up a generic picture?
Says in the description that it fits the 185 285 1100 2100 etc, so maybe this is the part I need?
I'll have to ask I guess ;D
You can get new ones from any dealer or Bailey's. I would buy the Oregon ones, you wil get a clutch drum and a separate drive sprocket that looks like a "rim" or a ring with slots I. It that mates to the clutch drum. You should also get a new bearing to go with the clutch drum replacement, can get that from bailey's as well.
So I was concerned about the replacement sprocket not having the four tabs that drive the oil pump, the one in the description on Baileys certainly do not have said tabs, so I did a google image search and I came up with this.....

That certainly looks like it will do the trick, and bring me into the rim sprocket age to boot! ;D
