I am new to the forum but have been viewing as a guest for a few months. I just purchased a 2013 wm lt 40 hydraulic. I am just sawing for myself to build some upcoming projects on some property I purchased. I have already gained a lot of knowledge from reading the posts on the forum. Some of the things I did not learn were
1. I spend more time staring at the log or can't with the engine running than anything else.
2. A 12 foot 2x6 in wet cypress is real heavy.
3. Some logs just are not worth the effort.
I am located in Jacksonville, Florida and am the guy Nomad posted about.
Gday

welcome contractor. I know what you mean about staring at logs.I have been staring at a semi load for about 2 weeks now,I sure wish it would go away.
Welcome Contractor, not to worry it will all come with time, start slow double check everything and enjoy yourself. All the finer points will come naturally as you gain experience. You will never look at a tree the same way.To do much you will need some good equipment, yard tractors with dinky loaders need not apply. Welcome to the forum Contractor1. You will like it here.
I spent 20 years in Florida (Cape Coral area) before I retired,
and I don't miss the heat and hurricanes at all.
Good luck and saw on -----
Welcome!
Also, go to you profile and update it to include your location. You bought a great mill.
Welcome to the FF. I still stare at logs on the mill, trying not to lose any BF. I lived in the Orange park area for a while and out in Middleberg. For about 3 years. It's a nice place.

Yeah, I worded that poorly. I'd read Jeff's message already so he wasn't ignoring my request. What I really meant was that his help wasn't needed in this instance. :embarassed:
Welcome to the Forestry Forum, Contractor1.
Great place to hang out, and learn.

Welcome to the forum, you can expect to pick up a lot of knowledge here.
Congrats on the new WM, and Welcome to the Forestry Forum. :)
Thanks for the welcomes. A few had asked some questions about me. I am a utility/pipeline contractor working in the southeast. With my profession I am prettty good on support equipment. I am looking at a used Vermeer wood chipper. Now all I really need is a dedicated barn for the saw, a barn for the lumber, maybe a kiln, and commercial planer. My wife still looks at me like I am crazy. She asked me why I was wasting this money on something I did not have time for. I told her it was cheaper than a "girlfriend". I did promise to sell the chopper I have not rode in a year and a half.
Tractor,skid steer,forklift in there too? :D
You could ride the chopper a bit and tell her you just can't help it, you've got to live on the wild side!

I keep a 420IT Cat backhoe on the property. It pretty much does what I need. I have them drop off a excavator when I take some trees down. I will have the sheds built this summer. Going to have to let someone else do it though.
Take the mill cut a little wood then build something for the wife. She will then be on your side. :D

Even better, let the Mrs saw some boards, THEN make her something out of them ;)
Of course then you might not get to use the mill any more and end up being her off loader. :D
