On Tuesday Nov. 12 2013 I sold the auto repair business I have had for 20+ years. This ends a 35 year career that was sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Owning a business with employees can be very stressful as many of you know.
Last week Jeff finished my new website and this week I started sawing on what will hopefully be my second (and last) career. You can check out the website @ sawitcoming.net
Monday evening I got a call from Memphis TN. The caller felt he had to call and comment on my web site. He said it was great and wanted to know if I had built it! I don't think that is up my bag of tricks!!
Sawing full time and being outside has been a dream for the last 5 years or so.

I like it. I like the way you move with the topics. Going to add your covered porch, a garage, a sawmill shed and a get-away cabin in the woods to your personal projects? Fill it up and it will look that much better.

I have been having computer problems - specifically with pictures and a new Mac Mini and the incompatability of the new Mac and my internet connection.
Getting a new internet connection next Friday! Than there will be pics!

Moose, congratulations!! And really nice looking website. I would guess more than 1/2 of my business comes from people who I've never dealt with but who find me on the internet. I know for a fact that there are a lot of sawmills in the area where I am, but the average Joe Blow out there doesn't know how to find them ... but they do know how to do a Google search!!
By the way, I too just retired as of Nov 1, 2013 from a desk job of almost 34 years to become a full-time sawyer. Ironically, the company I retired from was ... Caterpillar.

So lets say I have a friend living in New York who wants to find a portable sawmill nearby. Now living in another country on the other side of the continent, you might not expect me to get the same results as a local. However, when I use Google,
"portable sawmill watkins glen ny" puts you at #8 on the first page.
After all, the folks who are further away are not sol likely to stumble across your mill in action. But checking out your own neighbourhood,
"portable sawmill newfield ny" pust you at #3 on the first page.
Jeff builds a first class website, but all that work and skill wouldn't be much use if people didn't find it first. Jeff does a superb job of getting people to your website so they can actually admire it (and order stuff from you).

submarinesailer, the same crew is at MD Auto as one of my employees bought the place. I specifically asked that they treat your daughter well. I Started a sawing job Monday, a large pile of 6x6s and oak 4/4 for a barn floor. Tuesday sawed until noon so I could go to the reale state closing, Wednesday was all paper work for the shop, yesterday sawed all day - all 4/4 hardwood. Today 4/4 hemlock for a new garage. Should finish this job today. Two more mobile jobs waiting.
I tried the picture thing again last night, it is NOT going well for me!

One of these days when I am up there I need to meet all the "local" guys starting with you and mwood. I am just out in Hammondsport right down the road and would love to see that mill in action and be jealous of you until I can have one of my own.

People often don't appreciate the power of having their website linked to the forestry forum. FF is being updated constantly (by us) and that ranks it high on Google. Having a link from the forum to your site draws on that. Jeff knows how to tweak your site to make it show up on a wide variety of relevant searches.

I just wanted to add 1 piece of constructive criticism. I've been on it a couple of times now and the text in the white part seems uncomfortable to read, so I ask opinions of the family and they all agree , wife says it seem out of focus. Maybe ask others opinions I could be all washed up Keep up the good work Lazerdan
I am going to have to say that you are having issues with your computer and it certainly is not the website. That is a core Microsoft font set on a plain white background via CSS using font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;.
I'd suggest you google your problem and see if you can find a fix for your display issue.

I think all of us that have sawmills or interest in wood should feel blessed. I'm 2 years from retiring from the Forest Service......but it's like my Woodmizer has given me a whole other life to live.
