Sadly i must report that my daughter Karie was involved in a major auto accident this past weekend. She was traveling at about 50 mph, hit a patch of ice, slid off the road into the center median, stuck the tall piles of snow and Ice, and flipped her Chevy s10 blazer several times. She was evicted from the vehicle through the windshield while it was rolling and the truck actually hit her in the head, giving a her a good gash that required 7 stitches to close. She tried to get up and walk at the scene, but then collapsed in the middle of the highway. Fortunately and elderly couple spotted her in the road and called EMS.
Since the wreck she has been having seizures and is in extended ICU. She has a reptured ear drum and some teeth were badly chipped too. She has bruises head to toe, with some huge one on her back and thigh. At current time she can move hands and feet, but is unable to balance and walk. She is looking at a fairly long road to recovery. Mrs. Beaver is quite the mess over this whole situation.
All prayers gratefully accepted and appreciated

We are praying for you hope every thing turns out good. I lost my daughter 6 years ago in a car wreck
I am so sorry to hear that. Thank you for your prayers.
Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. I really feel like i have a room of family members with me.
Went to see her and they have her hooked to emg monitoring her brain waves and recording her movement and facial expressions. She keeps having seizures, as many as several a day. Some are minor, but others are more dramatic and leave her in an unresponsive state that requires some painful stimulation to bring her out of.
Unfortunately seizures run on her fathers side of the family ( I am step father for last 15 years ). He father actually died form them along with complications from drug abuse. Other family members on his side died of seizures as well, so there is great concern over her having them so frequently. When she is awake, she does appear a bit more coherent and was actually able to tell time on the clock yesterday and walk a few steps.
I went to see car with adjuster today and can not believe she survived that wreck. There was in fact a streak of blood and dent in the roof where it began, giving evidence that the truck actually hit her in the head when she was outside the vehicle. She did not have the seat belt on, but this is one of those times that I think she may have been lucky she did not. She is 6 foot tall. The roof on the driver side was severely crushed and lowered about 5 to 6 inches. The dash board, steering wheel, and floor buckeled up and in towards the driver leaving only about a 6 inches between the steering wheel and the driver seat upright. Had she remained in the truck she certainly would have had some serious crush related injuries, possibly worse than the relatively minor ones she has now by comparison. For sure they would have needed jaws of life to get her out had she gone for the complete ride in the truck rather than being thrown out.
Looks like this is going to be a long slow recovery.
thoughts and prayers.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you BB for the update. My daily prayers will continue for Karie.
Prayers sent, my worst nightmare, keep your heads up.

Praying that the seizures will end and she recovers fully BB.
Sad, sad, sad. No seat belt eh? I send my sympathy for your daughter. Stay strong. It sounds (reads) like she is going to have a long road to recovery. And there is no luck in being severely beat'n up in an accident. :(
I'm very sorry to hear about Katie's accident and injuries. Prayers headed your way.
Sorry to hear this, hoping all goes well and a speedy recovery.
So sorry to here of Karie's accident and injuries, praying she gets better soon.
prayers. be well and i am sad for the bad luck your daughters had. hoping for a quick recovery for her.
Just checked in and found this. Wishing you all the best. Will be praying for a recovery.
Good news to report
They let her come home today. 8) Not completely out of the water yet and a pretty long road to recovery, but she has moved back in at home with us for next few months so we can nurse her back to health. Guess I get to use some of my EMT skills again. Rode as volunteer EMT for many years back in NJ.
Thank you all for all your support and a special thank you to DoctorB for his behind the scenes advice and explanations of the medical issues. Was very comforting to me and Kristina.
Fantastic news! 8) 8) 8)
We will continue to pray for you all.
That will make me sleep better tonight. I was thinking of her and the family too.
Thank you for the update. Our prayers will continue for a full recovery. :)
Good news indeed! Hoping all goes well.

Great to hear that!!! Still praying for a complete recovery and hope you and the Mrs. can sleep a little easier now.
That's great to hear BBL. 8)
Thank you all. As a loner myself and with a very small family, I felt like i had all the family in the world with all you folks there. Thank you one and all.
She must feel better, she is already asking me to co-sign on her next vehicle. I know they are OK is they are looking to spend my money... :D
Yep spending dads money is a sure cure happy to hear she is doing good 8) 8)
Wow , so quickly , man that's good to hear . Wish her the best and hoping for a full recovery . Red
I am willing to co-sign, but i want to see a good bill of health from all the doctors first. She has about 5 appointments with various ones throughout this coming week. Once they all give thumbs up, we can talk about going car shopping. Until then she can window shop and try to figure out what she wants for her next ride. I am thinking driving again is still a few weeks away since she is still very sore and not moving around very feely yet.
Great news. Recovery should hopefully accelerate even more.
I will continue to pray for Karie's complete recovery and for you and Mrs. BB also. Encourage her to take her time and not try to rush back into things. Physically we heal faster than we do mentally sometimes. Best wishes for you and your family!
Great news!
If it were me, I'd make another stipulation to promise to wear her seat belt. I know you feel that in this case she may have been better off, but statistically you're much better to remain in the vehicle than to be airborne and smashing into who knows what or having the vehicle smashing into you. Vehicle designers depend on you staying in for best protection. I've seen so many accidents that you can't believe anybody survived but in fact they walked away because of seat belts and air bags. I'm just sayin', if it were my kid ...
I've gotten into such a habit, a while back I just automatically buckled up to pull the car from the driveway into the garage! :D
Ditto what SawyerBrown said. Seen it way too many times. Out of all the wrecks (hundreds) I went to many years ago, only one did not wearing the seat belt help.
Bruce
Amen to the seatbelts and maybe even a good defensive driving course. Our kids are too precious to lose.
Great news. Thanks for the update.
Allan
I am with you guys on the seat belt issue. I always wear mine and make sure anyone in the car is buckled up too. She has been told 100 times to wear the seat belt. Why she does not listen is beyond me, and I fear that because she survived, what could easily have been a fatal accident, that she may think she is invincible as a result. I have spoke my piece to her and her Mother on this issue. Mom assures me she read her the riot act. I guess time will tell. She is a good kid, but tends to be absent minded about many issues, safety being one of them.
I am a about as stubborn of a meathead as one could find, and I learned to wear one ::) I am glad she is recovering well, I hope she realizes how fortunate she is to be alve. No seatbelt=no car ;)

I don't want to be a doom caster but our sons have lost too many of their young friends through lack of seatbelts being worn or cell phone talking or texting while driving. I don't know if you can buy interlocks as an aftermarket device to prevent the vehicle being started unless the seat belt is properly fastened, I know they used to be available. I know you can buy breath test interlocks so the seat belt ones may be available.
It my be a bit extreme but the kids need strong guidance if they are to live to be old enough to be adequatley sensible like us old folk :)
BBL...grateful news about your daughter. If it were my girl, I'd be happy to get her a new truck...as long it said MACK across the grill. ;) ;D ;D
While watching The Voice last night we got to thinking about Karie, how's she doing? We hope recuperating nicely.
