Title: Stacking dry lumber
Post by: sallvord on March 15, 2014, 09:01:56 PM
I have approximately 3K board feet of 5/4 poplar and red oak. It has been stickered and air dried down to 12% after being in the open bottom of my barn for 2 years. My question is, can I remove the stickers and stack it tight together to save space since it is now dry without any negative effects? I do this with dimensional lumber, but I am not concerned with appearance. Thanks.

Yes, you can flat stack it without stickers at 12% moisture content.

Thanks WDH. I appreciate the advice. It looks like I found a job to do today.

The risk of flat stacking is that you will likely be unable to see any insect damage that is occurring...powder post beetle.  So, you should inspect the lumber frequently.
