Welllll.....yeah... Hey ..where'd you get that!?
Did it come through still a huge file?
Other than the fact that I have no idea what I'm doing, what could I be doing wrong?!!
I guess I'll have to read the instructions for the Graphic Converter.

So how do you like the half-track toolbox?Carries all your tools and a big lunch ,too.! The fallen trees aren't near the places I need corduroy so I guess I'll be the loader and this is a little forwarder. It will also skid a 14"dbh balsam just about anywhere you want!

Its a little hard to see. You need to try to get your photos to a pixle width of about 300 to 350 for a good size, and then reduce the k size. Here is a secret that apparently nobody has figured out. I upped the limit on the file size over 3 months ago to 17k :)

I am not sure if the copy and paste buttons work in mac, in fact I bet they dont. You did upload the picture O.K., you just need to pu the code in your post box to make it appear. It would have looked like this:

Post by: sprucebunny on June 20, 2004, 02:21:30 PM
OK That sounds like I can handle it. I know how to change the pixel bit.I had been aimimg low 'cause I can't see the finished(converted) file size. And I know it's probably really plain but just where do I get this code?
Thanks JM

well, I can only guess on how to help because I know NOTHING on the workings of a mac.  I dont know what functions of the forum work or dont work.

Basically all that code is the beginning and ending image tags which you can type in, and the address of the uploaded picture in between. In windows you can get the address by right clicking on the photo and clicking properties you can then copy the address(URL)

Jeff,
Macs only have one button on the mouse. So just imagine using a computer without having the right mouse button. Fine for surfing and reading, but not much else.  :-/

I was on a computer about 2 weeks before I found out about the right mouse button. Then it was like "WOW! Look at all the things I can do!" I had to use a Mac last November when I was visiting family up in CT. I felt helpless and all I could do was check my email and read a few posts. I couldn't even get the browser window to open up to the full size of  the monitor screen!

On a Mac you just double click....I think.
Have been experimenting somemore with pics and not gaining.
They seem to get on the forum but I can't get them on the page.
That or I get the WHOLE photo index.RRRRRRR >:(
I must be really dumb.

Hi Jeff. Do I just type in the image tags?
Title: Re: This is only a test...
Post by: Jeff on November 11, 2004, 07:54:46 AM
Either type them, or simply click the (https://forestryforum.com/YaBBImages/img.gif) button above the smilies and it should put tags in the box for you. You replace the URL in the center with your pictures's address.

Again, not sure how this works with Mac, so typing may be the option.

I was SO excited that I forgot to say "Thank you, Jeff" for the help.
Now I need an "Optimizer" for Mac so the pics can be big enough to see. Resizeing with Photoshop just changes pixel count/photo size and they are too grainy and small to see.
Thanks again, Jeff!

sprucebunny, most versions of photoshop have the ability to change the jpeg quality by % when saving. Look for that. It does not change the pixles size.  You can usually have a picture about 300-350 wide optimize well unless, at least I have found, it had a lot of red in it. Red does not crunch well.

I don't know if it works on a Mac or not, but a friend who is a graphic artist pointed me to a nifty little program, free of course, that is web-based.

It is remarkably easy to resize pictures using it.

You can run it by merely going to http://www.easyphoto.pl/_jnlp/easyPHOTO_0.jnlp

Then just open the image you want re-sized, then click 'image', 'resize' and then 'file', 'save as' and before you save it adjust the file size by moving the little slider in the upper right corner.

The part I like is it's a java script thingy so it will run right on top the FF upload page.

It makes it such an easy process that even I can do it.  :D

I tried to go to the easyphoto site but my computer said that they wanted "unrestricted access to my computer" and recomended not continueing. Don't have pop-ups or other annoying things so I decided to skip it.
Wouldn't mind buying a program if I could test drive it. Meaning :make it work.

@ Sprucebunney

Try this open source graphic software for the Mac

 Pixen 2 for Macintosh  (http://graphicssoft.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=graphicssoft&zu=http://www.opensword.org/Pixen/)

I think cut is Command  X, copy is Command C and paste is Comand V.
I think control mouse 'click and hold' brings up a menu like in windows. You can also get a two buttom mouse with the new Macs.

 Mouse Commands on MacOSX  (http://homepage.mac.com/frakes/MOSXPT/content/mousing.html)

I've used Mac's many times, the old 68K and PowerPC 604 cpu variety. In fact I run MacOS 7.6.1 under emulation (Fusion) on a 68k based computer when I so desire, full speed. Never used OSX because I don't have a PowerPC based computer. You can also run Mac 68 k under PC with the Basalisk emulator. Web browsing under the 68K Mac OS is terrible slow, compared to Pentium. But, the new G5's will run circles around Pentium and Windows. ;) For now I'll stick with me trusty Toshiba Satellite 600 mhz. ;)  :D

cheers

Thanks for thinking of me SwampDonkey---That's interesting but I didn't see anything about compression.
I finally found a great program for compression that offered target pixel count and side by side image comparison. Went back to the website to pay the $50 bucks and the website was broken/missing. Called the #s on the order page and they'd both been disconnected.  ??? >:(
This is entirely typical of my luck with things. So I'm going to stew about it for awhile.
Can't find another program that I understand for the same $.
I'm thinking of buying a used PC.
Love my new Mac. G4 w/ OS 10.something.

Title: Re: This is only a test...
Post by: sprucebunny on December 10, 2004, 07:55:41 PM
UH OH ...You mean I got to remember all that?
The real problem is that none of the buttons after "UPLOAD" work quite right. Have to enter code manually 'cause the URL contains"php?" or is for the WHOLE image album.
Course that was actually easy compared to finding the optimization program . It is a PhotoShop tryout that expires in 30 days. It's optimizer is called ImageReady.
Jeff--I suspect that could be a very boring job after the level of Mac user response that I got. SwampDonkey found the PS tryout for me.

Sprucebunny

In PS trial you can select Image/Image Size in the menu and when the window pops up type in 349 pixels into the X field and it keeps the pictures aspect ratio by adjusting the Y pixels automatically. Then under the 'File' menu select 'Save for Web' and a new window opens with a slider to the right. As you move the slider left the percentage of image quality drops and you'll see under the image, to the lower left that the size of the file shrinks and the #kbits/sec at 56k decreases. Click on 'Save AS' in the upper right to save your new image for upload in the directory of your choosing. Don't neccessarily need to go into image ready. I never play with Image Ready, but probably works the same. ;)

Nice , I thought for a minute that you had chatered a flight and had taken a picture of yor conifere forest , not a aerial so its a lanrial  ;) ,. That looks alot like caribou food.
Title: Re: This is only a test...
Post by: sprucebunny on December 14, 2004, 03:31:13 PM
If 5 feet counts as aerial (thanks Jeff) it's aerial. But if you mean "landrial" it might be 'cause I was standing on the ground....Such as it was. ??? OK, Well maybe I was standing in water ....but it wasn't deep.

Is that what caribou eat?

I've thought of getting a scenic flight at the local small airport. They're only about $60
Title: Re: This is only a test...
Post by: isawlogs on December 14, 2004, 05:59:00 PM
Caribou are herbivores. Their main food source is lichens, which gives caribou an advantage in the more harsh northern areas of its range where vegetation is scarce. The common "caribou moss" is actually a type of lichen (Cladonia rangiferina), which is a major food for caribou. Caribou also eat vegetation such as grasses, sedges, birch and willow leaves, and mosses.

I didn't write that ;D all's I did was clic on the mouse  ;) ;), moss is to lichen as corn is to grits in my book ;D ;D ;D
Title: Re: This is only a test...
Post by: sprucebunny on December 14, 2004, 06:34:32 PM
I can understand that moss and lichen would seem alike. I'm very nearsighted and like examining tiny plants so I appreciate the different forms of the two things even if I don't know many of the names.
Also like ferns alot. And all the "ground pines".All these things are ancient. The land I got has lots of different kinds of all these things .  ;D

Go to your local airport and tell them you want to take that scenic flight SB, I did and enjoyed it so much I came back for lessons. On the first ride they put me in the left seat taxi'ed out to the runway, and pointed it down the runway. I more or less flew the reast of the trip except for the landing. Great time and great scenery.

I like to take aerial photographs, my missus an' Deputy Dog are less than impressed when  Iroll the plane over sideways to get a good shot.

They don't even believe when I say falling out of a plane doesn't happen, and even if it did, the long fall doesn't ever kill you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom that gets ya' .....

Oh well, here's my winter 'cabin' from an aerial point of view.

New Providence Island, The Bahamas.

That is the Island that Nassau sits on, the smaller island at about the 1 o'clock position is Paradise Island. My place is at about the 4 or 5 o'clock position, on the left side of the big white blotch, a subdivision just being built at the time.

From a slightly lower altitude it looks like this.  ;)
