Title: RSVP For the Forum pig roast.
Post by: Jeff on June 27, 2004, 02:51:54 PM
Folks, if you know you're coming, please state so on this thread. Please include a guess on how many will be in your group. I realize some of you wont know until later, and that is cool, but this will give us a start for making plans.

I will make this thread stay at the top so its easy to find. Thats whats called a "sticky thread" :)

Possible places to stay (https://forestryforum.com/cgi-bin/board/YaBB.pl?board=poll_archive;action=display;num=1081156619#2)

We do have limited room for some tents or trailers. Let me know if you need a place to park one. If we get full I have a couple neighbors with empty lots that might (meaning maybe, I aint asked yet  :D ) be willing to park an R.V. for a night or two.

Jeff, my wife and I would dearly love to come, and bring our kids too.  There are too many reasons to list why we'd like to.  Some of them would be meeting and felowshiping with other forum members, and seeing new country, and seeing the work you've done on your house.  We've tried and tried to figure out how to make the time to get away but just can't see it.  Recent rains, lack of help, getting our daughter ready for college, and our work load is awful.  We're still hoping for some miracle to get a window of opportunity but it ain't looking good.

Being from the Great State of Arkansas I know hogs.  It would seem proper for a repersentive to be present to inspect this piggy roast.  I have been granted a travel visa to leave the state and cross the Masion/Dixion line and procede North to be at this function.  I should be considered armed and dangerous.  Wanda will not be able to attend as there would be great temptation to procure some types of logs that we do not have down South and issues may arise as to where these logs come form.  I noticed the last time I was in MIssissippi that there was a sign on the side of the road stating that it was illegal to log or cut trees on road right of ways. ::)
I did notice that Patty's pig came up missing real close to the pig roast.

I hope to be there. Count me in for one.

I'm thinking maybe go from here to Toronto, come back to Harrison, then back to Iowa state fair and who knows where after that. Not looking for a paying job, but just good food and good memories. Could do some tailing for someone. Class A CDL.

I plan to bring some "goodies" for Jeff to give away as "door prizes". What I would like to do is find someone near I94/I69 where I could drop them off to avoid the hassle of taking them through Canada customs twice.

Will I be able to buy a "pasty" in Harrison or is that too far south?

Will anyone be bringing grits?  :D  Never have tasted them either.

Will there be any show and tell or classes scheduled? Like chain filing, etc? If I bring my Onan carb will I be able to get help re-building it?  :D

-Doug

I'll be chating with you closer to the time to confirm what dish to bring (other than myself)  :D

When you know, let me know about how many will be there.  I might have some job-related giveaways for folks.  I'll also plan on bringing my Emerald Ash Borer Identification Kit in case anyone is interested (I can still get this stuff to you even if I'm called out).

Looking forward to seeing everyone, Ada.

Donna and I will travel on Friday the 6th, attend the Piggy Roast on the 7th and have to leave on the 8th 'cause she has to be back to work on Monday.  I don't have any reservations yet. I hope a motel room still available.  We've been busy moving.

Hi Charlie

You might try the Carriage House Inn. I hear some of the more distinguished visitors will be staying there.  ;)

Jeff, Did you say there is a demolition derby at the fair friday night?

If so, does any one have an interest in going Friday night?

I plan on going.  I went to one last weekend and could not believe my eyes.  Three classes. "Compact" - "Full Size" and "Pick-Up Truck".  Hadn't had that much fun in a while.

Kirk
At the  Columbiana County Fair in Ohio the have Combine Demolition Derbies every year . I have never personally watch one but have heard they are quite impressive too . \

Jeff
How far is the Fair from you  ?  How far is Jay's   also  ? I don't know if we will make that one cause we're stopping at Cabela's on the way . 8)

For those of you staying at wilson, the fair is right across the street. Thats one of the reasons the park fills so quick this time of year. We can hear the fair from the house in the evening. As the crow flies its close, but to drive, its around the lake about 2 and a half miles I guess.

Yes, demo derby Friday. Motocross Saturday.

Patty's been so disappointed we weren't going to be able to make it I decided that Elmer and the fat horse could just diet for a couple of days (I'll disconnect the phone so they can't call the ASPCA). :D I'm just going to throw out extra feed for them and the rest of the animals and head out after work on Friday.

OK I have finished the log rafters and sawed a jag of cedar and cleaned the glass on the truck.  I have passed Customs and cleared Home Land Security and the Southern Associon has approved my travel visa.  So I am headed North and will stop WM headquarters on my way through tomorrow.  Pay no mind to the Baker blue truck and watch out for the dog.

Hey there,

Can a relative newbie come along for the ride?  I'm thinking it'd be a shame to miss something like this, me being just a few hours away--if I come, I just wanna soak up a ton of knowledge, and some piggy while I'm at it!  Plus, I can make a mean chocolate chip cookie!

Hey!  Where are you guys this evening?  Not many loged in.

I don't know how you guys are going to talk to each other without your PCs,  internet connectons and such. :D

I'm sure I'll hear all about what we missed out on by not being there. But we got too much to do to take off now.  Mary was gone two hours to the store the other day and came home to find two loads of logs waiting for her.  She thought it was safe to leave as it was storming.  Ended up getting over 3" of rain that day.
