When I signed in it said I had "20 IM out messages" and the box was full. I sent only one IM a few days ago while responding to a person. Maybe a virus is sending out going mail?
I don't believe we have an IM virus. :)
That outbox accumulates forever. The only way to clean it up is to manually delete the entries. You can do the whole Box or one at a time. ........or live with the "full" message and let them drop off of the bottom of the list.
I have to tend to mine every couple of days and delete the ones that have been opened. I leave the unopened ones so that I can tell that the other person has seen the message.
I have only had two messages (saved as a reference) for a long time. I just do not do IM that much and usually delete them once read. I had 2 - it said I had over 20 and was deleting them. I went to check the IM and I only had the two I I thought I did.
Are you thinking the outbox is the inbox? They are different (I didn't realize my outgoing messages accumulated in the 'outbox' and I needed to delete them there as well as rec'd messages that were kept in the 'inbox').
Maybe you have yet to discover that 'outbox' which is one of the 'buttons' in the header just above the messages listed in your IM area. :) So many features here that I am still finding them too. (Mmmm I just glanced at those two blueish rows of 'tags' at the top here, and realize where all the 'fancy' messages come from, such as the 'line out' tag, and the superscript and subscript, etc. )

That is the ticket!
I did not know you needed to delete outgoing. So that is what that icon is for ... actually never even saw it! I guess that little dancing guy takes up all my attention
