Title: Finally made the decision!
Post by: reswire on April 29, 2014, 06:47:03 PM
After much thought and deliberation (and the wife's o.k.)  :D, I've decided to pick up an Lt 40hdg35 this Friday 8) 8) 8).  I've owned another brand, a real good mill, but the decision to go with Woodmizer was largely due to outstanding feeling of support, given by Parson's Woodmizer crew in Shade Gap, PA.   Although the makers of my other mill were also great people and very supportive, I couldn't beat the feeling of having that much knowledge and experience just a short distance away.

I hope to post some pics on the forum when I learn the new machine, but I'll need to read some posts on uploading pics,,,, I know there are a lot of them!!
P.S......  The Horsepower thread was a lot of fun to read, I hope the couple extra I paid for are worth the extra bit I paid for it!!  And by the way, I did get the de-barker and lubemizer, as directed by forum members.  SEE GUYS, IT DOES PAY TO LISTEN TO THE EXPERTS!  8) :D :D

Thanks guys,
I definitely will learn to post pictures.  Can't wait to get the new mill, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.  If only the rain will stop falling, I could pic up some new logs to try out!  Thanks again.

Congratulations 8) 8)
You will be happy with the decision.  Go ahead ahead and buy a little can of black spray paint to cover up the shiny saw marks you will make in the log clamp before anyone has a chance to see them.  :D
Actually, I may have used up a couple cans. :D

Congrats on the new mill. I will start the "I Sawed Into My New Mill" Betting Pool with 3 days. I figure he will saw into some part of the mill within 3 days of using the sawmill. Any takers?  ;) :D

Since he's had one, I'm going with reswire NOT trying to dismember his mill.  A long shot, I know ...   ;D

I will take the 30 day slot in the pool, always watching everything when you first get it and start to relax after about a month of sawing ;D
congradulations on your new mill ;)

Don't worry, I'm no stranger to the spray paint isle at Lowe's.  My last mill had more gouge marks on the backstops than I care to recall. :D :D  I tried sharpening my own blades at first, and soon found out that metal plays hell on a saw blade.  When I sold the saw, the new owner asked what would keep him from sawing into the stops.  A little bit embarrassed and with some truthfulness, I explained to him that "nothing will stop that from happening".  "Just a few well thought out cuss words, and an alert eye will cut down on that problem".   ;D

I am looking forward to milling wood this time,,, I bought a new metal detector and a pair of bifocals!  My last mill was a stationary set up at the end of the mill,,, this one is a walk along model, and honestly I look forward to being nearer to the "cut".  On my last mill I couldn't see the cuts until I stopped and got close enough to see if they were beginning to "wave" etc.

I think that "ride along seat" may be one of my first add-ons,,, and I am curious if any else has one and likes it.  I don't know if it would be more of a problem hopping up and down from a seat, or if it really does save your back and legs??  Maybe a board drag back???    I beginning to think a Woodmizer sawmill is like a Harley Davidson motorcycle.   It really isn't yours until you customize....
I'm just glad they don't make a Woodmizer credit card like Harley does.... 8) 8)

Congrats on the new mill.
Bobby Kinney told me that you had got in touch with him last week, and that you were getting a new mill.
He is really looking forward to you sawing his walnut logs for him.
I am looking forward to watching that new mill in action myself.
Call me, or Bobby will let me know when you show up, and I will bring my camera and shoot plenty of pictures, and post them here.
Again, congrats on the new mill....

Got it home, whipped the drool of the mill, and am loving every minute of it.  I've run out of decent logs to mill, :(  but Buddy W knows where a few are.  Can't wait to get to them.  It's amazing and down right fun to work with a machine, rather than on one.  Life is good again.

Was too eager to use a metal detector I guess.  Log stops,,, maybe tomorrow??  :) :-)

They are painted orange so that you can easily see the saw tooth marks.   ;D

Nope, tooth marks are kinda like merit badges.  Wear them with pride and picture them here so we can all admire them.

What do you do with the damaged blades??
Title: Re: Finally made the decision!
Post by: backwoods sawyer on May 04, 2014, 11:05:36 PM
step on them to brake them and make four flat pieces that go in the scrap pile.

My friend has a seat on his LT40 Super, says he will not saw without it. He just shoves the boards onto the loader arms or if he has an off bearer he lets them take care of it.

If you use WM Resharp and are on the blade replacement program, put it in the box with the other dull blades.

Reswire,
Congrats on the new mill.   Glad you made it home safe and sound.  Sounds like you're getting right into it?  Thanks so much for your business and all your cooperation.

Again, there are two types of sawyer; those who have tried to saw off a chunk of their mill and those who lie about it!

...I personally, have forgotten a time or two and removed some paint from the dogs

If you just shine up the clamp and the saw has no issues do you put another slash mark under the made contact collum?  ;D

Hitting nails is part of the job. I'll give that one to you. I was betting that you would hit your sawmill (log clamp, loading arms, etc.) within three days. I guess I lose the bet.  ;)

Yes but hitting nails is not nearly as much fun as hitting sawmill parts.  Makes you feel so much less stoopid.   :D

..makes you feel stoopid, I agree; makes you feel REAL DUMB when its a brand new blade.  I usually hit the dog on the funny shaped logs after removing a few slabs and forget about the dogs being up.  >:( >:( >:(

Hitting nails, metal in the log is not your fault. It's the fault of who ever put it there.   ;D  Unless the signs of metal shows and you just keep sawing. Now those log stops are put there by the one sawing..... And by the way,I have never hit a log stop with a blade that I was just about to throw away.  ::)

I know what you mean.  It pays to keep it positive!  I found a few logs today, and can't wait to get into them real soon.  I'm really excited about this mill, it just has a good feel about it.  The lighter weight makes it easier to tow, and the mill head resting lower to the deck doesn't make it appear to be "top heavy" when towing.  Overall, I am very satisfied.  The only problem so far is when the debarker is beeping, my Chessie has a fit.  She practically climbed up my back and wrapped her paws around my neck! :D :D  It's good to know man's best friend loves you, but a little dangerous when all the machinery is operating.  I had to leash her away from the machine, I hope she gets used to it soon.  If that is my only problem, I think I can deal with it!

Probably hurts her ears, they are kinda piercing.I wonder if you could tape a piece of cloth over it to make it not so loud. Than in a week take a little bit off each time until it's all gone.
