2011 deer-vehicle collision report by Mo. Highway Patrol:
There were 3,563 traffic deer-vehicle strikes.
In 2011, four people were killed and 376 injured from deer-vehicle strikes.*
*According to the report 'evasive maneuvers to avoid deer' and no deer struck but caused a traffic crash was not available.
The gist of it.......beware the other driver, check that, beware Bambi's Mom & Dad!
I've hit 27 deer, the latest one was last September while I was heading to a job 10 minutes from our house here at The Beach.
I've lost count. Five maybe a couple more.
I've learned to use four eyes while driving, one watching in front, one in the rear view mirror, one on the right ditch and shoulder, and the other on left.
Even that doesn't help when they are stretched out in full flight like the old Greyhound bus logo. I haven't hit a deer yet being the operative word here but have come awfully close more than once. Did take out a moose which really got my attention.
I've nicked one a time or two but dad was really lucky, he saw one coming, slammed on his brakes, stopped and it ran into the drivers side door, oops! The deer was fine but his window only goes about 2/3's the way down now :D.
