Where's the stone coming from, from the conveyor near Haverstraw? I think it was called Trap Rock when I lived down in Suffern but it may belong to Peckham now.

Thats the Tappan Zee Bridge. Just went down thru again 30mins ago. We average 5 trips a week.
One of our neighbors at home was a fireman killed in the 1st tower, and we knew a few others, hits home alot harder especially around the northeast. friends of mine getting on the boat that morning watched it all, the tugs in NYC where responsible for saving alot of people. 1 captain I know went and worked on the pile @ ground zero after the dust settled.
The stone comes out of Tilcon's pit's, either Clinton Point or Havestraw.
The Tappan Zee Bridge. Coming back to Maine I missed the turn and ended up somewheres. Somehow I found the correct turn and home I went.
Being on that barge looks like the only "SAFE" way to travel around N.Y. City !!!! ;D Back in 1966 on a school class trip we went up into the statue of liberty, was pretty impressive to a 8th grader !!!!

do you ever see fish while on the barge? I shoot a lot of fish and anytime I am near water I am always scanning for a fish to stick with an arrow. just like when I see a park full of trees I am thinking about lumber.

That Statue of Liberty picture is awesome. Would love to have seen it first hand.
I worked at a commercial airport and was on duty when 9/11 hit. We had commercial planes landing no where close to where they were going. The FAA had told them to find the closest airport and get on the ground. No if ands and buts.
Even with the inconvience to passengers etc. you could hear a pin drop in the terminal. No unruly passengers nothing. local pizza restaurants, without being asked, automatically started delivering pizza at no cost for stranded passengers and airline employees who had to work over.
Sort of the same thing when I visited the Oklahoma Federal Bombing site before anything was rebuilt. So quiet. Nothing said from the tourist except for misty eyes and solitude.
Makes this the greatest country.

I "got" to travel across the bay out of the old Brooklyn Army Terminal heading to Bremerhaven but the Statute of Liberty was a mere speck in the distance. I went out in 1961 and returned in 1964 and did get to sail under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge while it was under construction both ways. Brings back some old memories.
I just looked and see where NYC bought the Brooklyn Army Terminal in 1981. That is another amazing location in NYC.

Most people have no clue about the history in NY harbor. From the "hell gate" to "the brothers island" and "hart island". Some of the graving docks in brooklyn navy yard date back to the civil war. Alot of troops got on the boat @ brooklyn navy yard and that was the last time they ever touched American soil. Ive been offered a trip thru the Erie canal and up to Hamilton Ontario next week, wont make this one but will do 1 in July. There will be some awesome pictures on that one. The Chief Engineer isnt supposed to see daylight but I sneak out of the hole every once in a while. 8)
I'd be interested in hearing what the Chief Engineer does on a tug. Sounds interesting.
On a side note, I've been a regular visitor to a site that captures time pics from a web cam aimed at the righting and raising of the Costa Concordia cruise ship that ran aground near Giglio Island 2½ yrs ago. These time pics are shown daily which only makes a 3-4 minute time capsule of the many boats, tugs, cranes, etc. involved to support about 360 workers on a 24/7 job to attach the caissons for lifting sometime in July. Fascinating to me, how much coordination and communication of just the boat, crane, and tug operators that must take place for this task.

Great pictures! Sure brings back memories of times past. I spent 36 days at Pier 1 at the foot of the Brookland Bridge , doing guarantee work on a TAKX ship for Military Sealift Command. At that time, the restoration work was going on at the Statue of Liberty. It looked fuzzy being all wrapped in scaffolding. No visitors at that time. Got to watch the filming of an episode of Cagney and Lacey that took place at the bridge. Did get to go up in the tower tho. Probably would not recognize anything around there now. Andy
