Title: WoodchuckCanuck, a compassionate member
Post by: Tom on February 19, 2002, 10:00:13 AM
Did you know that one of our members was recognized by Wood Magazine for his role in supporting U.S citizens in the Sept. 11th fiasco?

Jim Barry runs a website that receives funds for  providing links to commercial wood stores.  He also owns a bakery in his home town of Gander, Newfoundland.  When flights were grounded, Jim baked 216 American Flag cakes to help feed and comfort 6,700 passengers stranded in his hometown.  It is reported that he also drained all of the link monies from his business accounts, which amounted to over $1800.00 and donated the funds to the Red Cross to be given to the American disaster relief fund.

I read this in the February 2002 issue of Wood Magazine on page 16, for those of you who would like to see it first hand.

I'm proud of you Jim, and happy to have you as a member of the Forestry Forum.

AMEN to that, Tom. My hat is off to Jim, and all the good people of Gander, for the way they pitched in to make those passengers comfortable. I think I recall some mention of this sort of thing in the Good Book. These people have proven themselves to be our friends. :)

I've seen this kind of response from people back in the Flood of 93.  Otherwise everyday people giving their all when they are needed most.

It is people such as he that cause me to say that man is really, basically, "good".  Thank you Jim, for Being.  For when you give, you truly give of yourself.   ;)

Anyone seen Jim around lately, I know his website is still active. He started a forum there awhile back I know. I've been to Gander before, but I can't remember much besides the airport. I think it's very small community.
