Morning all from Alberta Canada. First time poster long time lurker.
Need some advice/tips from the experienced TJ owners out there.
Looking to buy a 78 230d for the ranch. Minor league pulling and clearing.
Found one a few miles away for 4500 cdn. 383 dt, manual.Runs and all parts are accounted for. Typical Detroit oil leaks. Pins look good.
Used to JD not these old timber jacks.
Thanks for the advice in advance,
Chris.
I am not sure what you need advice on if you are experienced with skidders, the TJ is fairly simple.
Many people get the years mixed up, a photo might help us.
Try and run it and see how the winch and hydraulics work, will the blade lift the front end, will the winch pull and hold? Does the winch lever hold in the 'out' position? Do the brakes work and at that age, it should have a handbrake. Does it pop out of gear on over run?
Check fluids and oil leaks generally and if the winch looks like the clutch is oil affected or leaking. Winch should have specific worm gear oil in it.
Good luck.
