Sawed a 17' WRC today. 14" at small end . Nice log but dusty to saw and more knots than I had hoped for

Winching it in through the end of the mill . too long to roll in through the side door

Lots of thin boat plank but more knots than I like. Will just have to work around that I guess.

Nice post, was the log an old service pole?
Are you building a boat from it?

Looks good, how has the summer been where you are to? That log looks like it has been cut for awhile? Looks like a pole from something or other?
Nice log and lumber!
I really like the port at the end of the mill shed, appears that it comes in quite handy!
Thanks for showing us a bit of your sawing world. :)
I am a bit confused ??? WRC in Quebec? How did it get there? Must've been a pole or something. Nevertheless, a very nice specimen and kudos to you for getting it sliced up nice 8)
It is an old hydro pole a large one. These poles were part of a structure of three poles . They are around 80 foot tall. Thought this one would be a little less knots but no such luck. Still a nice log though. Going to use it to build a 13 ft Catspaw Dinghy.
At least that's the plan

I have always thought that knots and boat material was a bad thing, never done it but would sure hate to have a knot break loose while a float ;D Nice work on the side hole, great idea for long logs!

What kind of winch do you use to pull logs up on to the mill.As always your approach is fascinating.
