Title: Age old ?
Post by: jd540b on October 02, 2014, 07:55:35 PM
Ok, so thinking of buying a new pickup.  3/4 ton basic gas job.  Any thoughts or experiences on the new ford, dodge, or gms.  Power-towing, durability, etc.  thanks.

As far as comfort goes, the ford is the most comfortable.

Pick a good dealer. All the new trucks are junk! They all break down and electronics suck!

If you get a 3/4 ton GM with a 6.0L motor be prepared for poor gas mileage.  I bought one last winter and am now preparing it for sale.

By far... the quietest, nicest riding, most comfortable pickup I've ever driven. I'm talking all three manufacturers.

I have a Dodge diesel and would rather fight than switch. ;D Seriously, they are all good. Find a dealership you are comfortable with regardless of brand.

Hmmmm... we have one with a 6 speed auto and it gets 15 -16mpg.  That spanks a lot of new diesels for mileage and not bad in my book for a truck like that.  Thats at 70-75mph btw.

The really bad thing about the truck though (2010 hd 2500) is the ground clearance,  always hitting rocks, you should see the under side.

if i only got 15mpg with a new diesel i would not be impressed. my 6.7 rarely gets les than 20mpg

I have a Ford F 350 with a 6.7 diesel, nicest truck I ever owned.   I get 18 mpg with it stock.  Would do better with a chip and new exhaust, motor is very quiet too.

I am not a ford man but that 6.7 is a real good motor. Best they have had since the 7.3 IMHO

Had to start the old GM vs Ford comparison.
I have F150 super crew; and like it well but GM has good truck as well.

I've had good Dodge trucks in past; but don't like the new models since brand went overseas.
Dont forget to check out the Toyota, but they are pricey new; but keep resale value

There must be something wrong with my 2011 as I am only getting around 12.3 US gallons/mile.  My old Duramax would give me 20+ empty or pulling the trailer.  I do agree that the ground clearance is less than desirable on the newer GM's.

Bit the bullet and bought a  2015 f350 gas job.  9' Fischer plow-nice truck.
Was kind of forced into it-totaled my old pick up Sunday night in the height of our snowstorm.  Can around a corner to a 20" red oak that blew down across the road.  By the time it came into view I had about 2 seconds before I impacted into it.  Quick stop to say the least.  Didn't budge..truck was totaled but I walked away.  Lucky.
