Title: Set carb with or with out bar & chain?

Should I be setting the carbs on my saws with the bar and chain or with out? ???

I always set my carb with the bar so the chain won't run and it will still idle.

 depends on the saw for me.. if its one with the power to do heavy cutting.. i set it in heavy cut..rpm dont mean nothin unless it ll hold a good rpm in cut.. jmo

I always set thecarb with chain on. Gives me a better feel for idle and throttle response. Once, I was setting up a Homelite, I believe an XL-12, without the bar, chain, or cover. I was (foolishly) pinning it up then down when BANG and there were clutch parts flying everywhere. The screw on rotor decided it had had enough and was leaving. A shoe was embedded in the drywall and I never did find the springs. Never did that again
