An alsnetbiz article mentioned using sealer with Boracare for better water resistance.  Has anyone tried this and what proportions of sealer to solution??

What is the application? Log cabin home maintenance, working with a previously dried slab or ???

Also, what type of sealer? End sealer, sanding sealer, or ?

As I recall Boracare is marketed for dry timbers and logs, unlike Timbor which is marketed for green lumber.

Thanks for the quick response.

The use is to treat porch posts and porch bents of a timber frame.  The wood is "BKP" SYP.
This is what the article had:
"I have had good results by adding a water soluable "Sealer" to my solutions which make them more water resistant."

There is a lot of information that says propylene glycol is not effective against insects and decay fungi.  It makes sense as it is a non-toxic chemical.

Note that borates are water soluble, so they will leach out of treated wood if subject to wetting from liquid water.  The idea of preventing wetting using a liquid water barrier is a good idea for wet exposure.  Unfortunately, many "sealers" are not that effective...wax is pretty good, however.  A good sealer will likely interfere with subsequent finishing and refinishing.
