Title: Solar Kiln Question
Post by: willmyers0169 on November 14, 2014, 07:41:54 PM
anybody that has built a solar kiln, how did you close off the ridge and the bottom of your clear tin? the plastic thingies that HD sales that fit under the tin are not going to be  close to air tight, im thinking of spray foaming both ends? any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thin foam weather stripping works good enough. If you use hardware store sealant in a tube, get the silicone stuff. Acrylic sealants may attack the plastic glazing. From a pracital standpoint, it probably ain't gonna make a whole lot of difference. Any solar kiln is a big pile of compromises anyway..

I used corrugated wood that is widely available for this purpose, along with butyl rubber latex caulk.
