I think weekly would be a good choice. There's been talk about doing something in New England. Maybe you could bring the fire ring with you like a trusted old dog. I hope you do a repeat performance next year whether I make it or not.
Pete
I got pprpd.
Post piggy roast partem depression. Look out there to the fire area and wish it was still going on.
My question is:
Is there enough interest to do it again next year?
Ah . . . come on Jeff,
We haven't been yet :'(
No worries on my side. Tammy and I would love to do it if there is enough interest.
I would sure like to see you have one next year Jeff.
Sure did hate missing this one so will plan on it next
year if you have it. Give me more time to tell the Miss,
Sawwood
When I first saw this topic I thought you were debating on covering up your outside wall with all of the FF signatures.
I really enjoyed listened to all of the stories and it does interest my wife and I to go to another Piggy Roast.
We are also suffering from PPRPD really not the depression part been there and done that.
Not really depressed. I look out there and still see the swings and tables and it seems like there ought ta be people out there. Guess I better find a place for the remaining tables. Ain't slowed down since the get together till this week. Now physical therapy has got me plum useless.
Kevin and I have PPRPD too!
We enjoyed meeting everyone and would come out again. But meeting in another location might be a good idea, probably not down south though after seeing the pictures in ARKY's post. ;)
You name the place , time and date we'll try to make it .It was a great time and the kids want to know when we are going back to Michigan .

Jeff this guy want's to come forsure! 8) 8) 8)
The nieghbors commented on what a good group we had, in fact it was one of the neighbors that came over that won the gallon of maple syrup from BBTom. They say ya'll are welcome back to our neighborhood anytime. I figure we still got room here, at least one more years worth of growth anyway. I hope
Got some PPRPD myself, and I think the only cure's another Pig Roast! My vote is a definite yes--how bout this weekend? :D :D :D
Thanks again for hosting us Jeff, especially us newbies! ;)
You have to have another piggy roast I already made plans to take the time off ;) you just gota.
Jeff, I'm all for having another Piggy Roast and I'm all for having it at your place again. Both Donna and I enjoyed ourselves very much. It was fun meeting you and the rest of the members that came. Donna enjoyed visiting with some of the wives.
I have a great idea! When you put the siding over the Forestry Forum Signatures, use velcro instead of nails. That way you can just remove it each year for more signatures. ;D
I would realy like to get to one, being from michigan myself. With enough warning I might could swing it. Or ya'll could have one a little nearer to South Carolina, we could through a few snakes on the fire with the pig ;D
Ill be there....life is short, enjoy the fun times when they come along the cost is forgottn long before the good memories :)
Are you kidding me??? I wasn;t there and I enjoyed it! All the stories shared and the pics have brought joy to GA. I just need more details and pictures with captions on the pics ......nosey ain't I? ;D
Sandmar
My only regret was not being able to stay LONGER. Next time, its a family trip.
CAPTAIN
Ya got my vote. But I think we'll need another piggy, cause I think da last one is pretty much history. ;)
We should have next years at Paul_H's. I always wanted to see that part of da country. We could rent a BIG BUS ta haul everyone dar, and pick up more members along da way. ;D
Chet,
that sounds like a capital idea 8)
If there is another Pig Roast,I will do my best to be there.I had a great time.
Let's do it again 8) 8) 8) 8)
Patty and I would sure try to make it again, had a great time but didn't have a chance to meet everyone there.
So little time so many legs to talk off. :D
Yes Please! I had some PRSA (Pig Roast Separation Anxiety) from missing the last one and Elvis the Road King loves to have a couple of days on the road.
Jon
By all means we need to do it again 8) 8)
The weekend of Aug 6-7 seems to be a good one. It was big fun meeting so many members in person. My wife really enjoyed herself too. We most certainly will come again.
I would like to go and meet everybody !
Jeff Is there going to be another hole digging contest :D :D ;D
It has been said many times on The ForestryForum, that there are no silly questions. Now I think Jeff has finally come up with one. ::)
Im in 8) 8)
Start puting that quarter-a-day in the jar so when the time comes...............NO EXCUSES! ;D
Jeff, By the sounds of things, the pig roast was, well...........on the scale of 1-10 maybe a 10+. sorry I couldn't make. If at all possible I will try next year. Maybe next year I will have all my haying done along with all the other chores. ;)
I will try my best to come, maybe bring da wife. I sure had fun meeting everyone this time.
All ya gotta do is name the date and we will be there...
Here Piggy Piggy Piggy...
Ed and I really wanted to make it this year. Not possible, BUT, next year, Gonna do it. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Came so close to breaking away this year, and 'whined' to myself the entire weekend. Just couldn't change (or leave) the family gathering with all the kids (some had airfare to get here) to make it. I really plan (and want) to make one next year, at all costs, and no matter where.
Have had similar 'lonesome' feelings after a good party, like "why did this have to end?" :)
Jeff and Tammy - u need to promise you will take it easy next year, and not do the 'marathon' building thing again. :) ;)
(that is if you are going to host again, which it sounds like what you would like to do)
On the way home from the piggy roast, I told the wife that I want to go next year.
I know its pretty far for most members but I dont think it would be The Forestry Forum pig roast if it wasnt at Jeff and Tammys.
EZ
I'm sorry I missed it this year. Thought about it all that weekend . Hope to make it next year.
Please,.... have another , Jeff. Not too many second chances in life, hope this is one of them.
I'd like to suggest having it somewhere around Branson, MO. or Nashville, TN. Either location would be pretty much "center of mass" of our members.
Branson, between Bro. Noble's and Arky's places are a lot of parks and other facilities that could be had. Lots of camping and motels, etc. Lakes, fishing, country music, etc.
Nashville has a lot of country music and historic places to tour.
Would be nice to make it on or near a date of some major forest industry show. Maybe we could get some (more) of our good sponsors to drop in.
Just my thoughts... ::)
Bibbyman,
I second your emotion.
Jeff, I can see where you and Tammy would like to repeat at your place. Wish more of us could have been there. We would have cept for a weddin in Tulsa
May have to have a west coast one too.
How about two or three regional ones each year? And, as Bib suggests, plan it to coincide with a show.
Actually if you look at the members map neither one is near the center of the mass. I think WV Hillbilly is about the center of the mass, but he's willing to come here. Besides, we got more trees. On and off da map. ;D
It sounds like Bibby has Goinorthophobia
Well, I got nothing against going to Mo, did it last year and we loved it If it were not for Tammy's new job we would be going again this year. I say if we do go that way eventually we all stay at Bibs. Bib, start clearing a campground, Kevin_H and Hawby got some big rigs. ;D
Make room for me, I'll bring my travelin' house too. 8)
Well, maybe we need to add in Fabiola in Brazil and the boys "down under". They're few but far away. That's sure to pull the "center of mass" a little further west and south.... ;D
Maybe a little east of Nellsonville, OH. when they have the Paul Bunyon show? If I remember right, there is a big state park east of there.
New River area of West Verginia is purdy-darn nice too.
I think Buzz said it best:
I'll be there....life is short, enjoy the fun times when they come along, the cost is forgotten long before the good memories. :)
Count me in, at least I'll TRY to make it! ;D ::) ;D
LBJ is all in for another piggy roast for sure! 8)
I however am not to sure if I would want that many people near my wood piles. There are to many to watch and I am not sure the snakes would keep most of these guys away. I do have lots of pasture to park in and lots in the area to see and do. I even have hickory for the pig to smoke. But if the locals found out that I was personaly responsible for bringing in that many Yankee's at one time there would be heck to pay. If I can find my way to MI and Doug-in-Utah (who I don's know if he found his way back) can make it so can you.
We are so glad we decided to attend this year's piggy roast...even if it was at the last minute. And we are looking forward to next year's. Don't change a thing Jeff, the time and the place were great. You & Tammy are good hosts...so if you are both willing to have us all over again next year, we'll be there. 8)
I'll get the count down started again soon. :)
Gee whizz there big guy.....did ya really have to ask? ;) 8)
I 've never been accused of being the center of the mass except my belt that holds my drawers up . :D The tree thing would be up for grabs. I think you have us in the lake department though .
I enjoyed every minute of the trip . About 15 minutes into it I had my doubts cause my 4 year old ask if we were there yet . ::) At that moment I thought it was going to be a long one . She fell asleep and didn't wake up till I pulled into the rest area on 23 in Michigan .So that was a good thing .
I can't wait till the next one . I will have to start thinking of a good surprise now .
Hillbilly
Seems like the aye's have it ;D That's definately an event to participate in. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Smaller regional get-togethers like those fellers in Florida had appear to be very enjoyable too. Might fit into a member's family's vacation so's that he could see some other parts of the country and meet new/old friends.
I'm looking forward to the day when I don't have to milk cows so I can go lots more.
Bro.. Why don't you get one of them there new-fangled milkin' machines? They they could just milk themselves anytime they wanted. ;)
Better get one with a gas engine or else the cows could get caught up in the extention cord. :D
Maybe we should have a regional at Bro. Nobles to help him out. I'll bring 3000 hamburger buns. ;D
Hey Arky
Yea there would be heck to pay . They would probably try to feed us big heaping bowls of GRITS :o A sign posted would probably say " Sorry We Run Outa The Pig You Came To Eat But Here Is Some Pig Before It Becomes Pig " :D
Hillbilly
You's right Hillbilly and that pig would have grown up on grits here. Did you know that if you let grits set up in a pan (that does not happen very often around here) you can slice them out and cover with butter and honey and eat it like toast?
Jeff, Are we going to have to dig up the front yard again? I need to know so I can make travel plans. Wife says I can not come alone any more since LBJ can not keep me out of trouble.
ARKANSAWYER
Arky tell her the count down has begun!
Mary says her mom, in a time long ago up north, would make what we call GRITS and put them in a bread pan and let them set. When they got stiff enough to slice like bread, she'd do it and then fry the slices in fat in the skillet.
I've re-GRITed not having the chance to try that. ;D
Bibbyman-That sounds kinda like that new-fangled polenta stuff that Italians have been making outta yellow corn forever.
Jeff -Ya think a 5 gallon pail of ketchup will take care of that bbq you planning at Bro. Noble's? ;D
we always had grits fryed at home Dad liked grits about any way but they allway made enough to put in a small square bread pan and let it soild up of corse my step dad came from the town the cedar man is from
Glad I was right about something Arky. I really shouldn't get on the non grits eatin band wagon . I tried them twice and don't think the were fixed properly . That taste test was in NC so I don't think it was a northerner cooking them . I'd be willing to try them again though. I know up here we have some great corn fed deer and Angus beef to eat so those pigs would have to be good eatin too.
Bibb,
Is Mary from Ellynoise? ----seems like you said she was. Well my wife came from there and they were all the time eating 'corn meal mush' that sounds like what Marys Mom fixed.
Funny how these Yankees don't like grits but like fried corn meal mush :D :D
By the way, anytime a FF member is in this area, we'll have a regional FF meeting. You'ns is always welcome :)
Funny you should mention that, Noble. ;D We be taking a little trip in November, for the biennial reunion of my Army buddies. This time it will be in Ft Worth, Tx. Our plan is to make one leg of the trip, either going or coming back, more or less direct, or what we'll call the southern route. On the other leg, we're hoping to circle to the north, through Arkansas and Missouri. We'd really like to stop by and get a closer look at you and Arkey along that part of the trip, and we might even range far enough to see Bibby & Mary. Not sure whether we will drop in on cktate on the north or south route, but we will drop in whether he likes it or not. ;D Just wanted to give everybody a heads-up. Reunion will be Veteran's Day weekend. :)
Bro_Noble
Sounds familiar. I was raised up in central Iowa and we used to have corn meal mush a lot. Set up in a pan, sliced, and fried as you describe, with syrup poured over it. Alternated with pancakes at breakfast time. It was good. Sure don't remember anything about 'grits' though ::)
The countdown is counting, and I am at the moment not sure where it will be. To be decided yet? Click on the "Only 342 days....." to the left and takes one back to the 2004 thread. But I can be patient. Read a sign today "Patience is a virtue that carries a lot of wait". :)
Mary was born in Mary-land (where else ???). But she grew up (mostly ;D) on a farm just south of the Wisconsin border.
She's pretty much grown out of her Yankie upbringings. ;) I had to learn her how to talk all over again..
Bib, start planning on Michigan. As you can see, everyone that came, wants to come back. Only those that didnt propose a new place. Dont that make ya just a bit curious on what you might be missing?
I am glad this thread is on this line again. For a bit it had made a dreadful turn, but being one that will walk on the edge once in awhile I venture to say that Tom fed me fried in bacon grease, coagulated grits, and I liked em.
EEK!

Please don't tell us you have foresaken yur fried taters fur dat coagulated southern stuff. ::)
Here's some perrogies stuffed with taters and cheese, that outta fight off them greesy grits. :D :D
ps. I hate perrogies, bleck :D
Those Grits are good stuff, Chet. You just have to figure out how they taste best to you. :D
I-I-I---I---I Like'em!
You can carry enough in your front pocket to live on a week. All you need is some water, salt, a pot and fire. They swell up to where a cup of grits'll feed 6 people........ .....or 2 Southerners. :D
