I cut down 37 pine trees back in may - july of last year ( 2014 ). Their 12-18 inches in diameter and have been laying since they were cut. Now mind you I know their NOT the lumber one would reallt use but I just want to build one that grandson and I can play in and sit and watch wildlife from and maybe use as a ground blind. And I can learn a few log building technics in the process.
Is it worth the effort or just stack'em and burn'em?
Oh forgot their from 10 to 18 feet long , most being the longer
I imagine the bugs have had a good feast, but I wouldn't just burn them. Make a couple of cuts and see how sound they still are.
I certainly would give them a chance, a few years ago I sawed out some, some of which were older with slipping bark, which was a good thing. They wanted 6x7's D-logs, three sided.

There is a lot of beetle kill lodgepole not too far from my place in California. We just let it stand there 'till the bark falls off, then we cut'em down and take them home. The wood is well cured and still quite solid great for log cabins. I guess that's why they call them lodgepole pine.
