so you would think a mill like that could make more money sawing tie logs then dimensional lumber.   with the automated equipment,  turning large ties,  makeing 1-2 cuts then makeing a turn... the speed at which you could turn out ties....

Not at all necessarily. It depends on the region, species, log quality and markets.
