Title: Recommendations for T&G cutters on 1/2" arbor
Post by: Ljohnsaw on October 04, 2015, 12:40:08 PM
I might not be searching with the right words so "search" didn't find me what I was looking for in old threads here.  I have an old Delta shaper with a ½" arbor.  It has a ½hp motor that I will upgrade to 1hp.  I want to do some T&G on some cedar boards.  Eventually, I will be doing some 1" stock, but right now about ½ to ¾".  I also want the little V at the joint.  I see lots of butt joint T&G cutters on Amazon, but not with the V.

Anyone have some recommendations?  I will be doing LOTS of boards for my cabin walls so I suppose carbide tipped will be the best.  With the amount that I'm doing (and "soft" cedar), I'd like to make the cuts in one pass if possible.

Thanks!

You might want to try MLCS. They list a set as # 1088 on this page: http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/smarthtml/pages/shaper_join.html#tongue_and_groove_straight_anchor

You  might want to just use a router table setup. I used their smaller router bit set but you might want to use the larger one shown on this page: http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/smarthtml/pages/bit_tongue_groove.html#tong_v_notch_anchor (http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/smarthtml/pages/bit_tongue_groove.html#tong_v_notch_anchor)

Good luck and be careful!

Just ordered a set from MCLS.  We'll see how it goes - thanks.
