Title: Pawl studs in flywheel?
Post by: Jim Davis on April 01, 2016, 12:26:36 PM
I have a Homelite XL flywheel with a broken pawl. Is the stud that holds it removable? I also have a Stihl 020 AVP that has a pawl stud with part of the head missing.

I'm sure the XL would start OK with only one pawl, but I don't like the idea of the unbalanced flywheel.

Homelite has starter pawl kit 70285 to replace broken ones. The pin must be removable. The kit costs as much as a good used flywheel.

Hey Doug, thanks for the information and the perspective. For now, I just put it back together to see if it will run (it should).
