When ethanol gasoline first came out it pretty quickly turned my gas line to jello! A new line fixed that problem. But, that was like 20 (?) years ago. Been running ethanol gasoline ever since.
Last month I found a station in Oklahoma that has no-ethanol gasoline so I got some and tried it. Man, what a difference! My old Husky white-top 61 runs better and has more power!
I assume newer saws have been optimized for ethanol gasoline? Is that correct? Can they still run with straight gasoline (no ethanol)?

everyone i have talked to that use 2 cycle engines prefer non-ethanol
I'm not so certain it would make much difference in how it ran .It would however make a difference in how long the seals and carb parts would last.
I will add it takes 40 more percent by volume of ethanol to equate to straight gasoline or so I'm told .Then too you have adjustments on the carbs and perhaps a little turn here and there you might not be able to tell the difference .It is something to talk about though ,somewhat akin to the great oil discussion . ;D
A friend/neighbor that does a lot of crabbing with a small boat and 9.9 HP 2 stroke outboard says a 6 gal can of non-ethanol lasts almost 2 hours longer than ethanol gas.

Ethanol mix gas will sour in a couple months, I have had carb problems time and time again from equipment setting gassed up with ethanol blends. I can't tell much of a difference in performance but we recently moved to an area where I buy ethanol free premium. No more stale gas in our stuff...Its ethanol free for me...
BTW, our local Stihl dealer has a list of gas stations that sell EFG...

I don't think so - but newer fuel lines etc usually tolerate it better than older ones.
As far as I know, what works best in most modern chainsaws is alkylate fuel with high quality fully synthetic oil - and that is what they are optimized for, to the degree they are optimized at all.
I suspect the same stuff works best in older chainsaws as well, and with that oil you can just forget any 25:1 or 16:1 mix ratios.
An older saw that has been run with a high content of dino oil in the mix and/or a too rich carb setting needs to be cleaned before using alkylate fuel in it though. If not, flakes or lumps of carbon deposits may come loose and create trouble.
