anyone know where I can get a manual for my 1978 240 grapple skidder
Maybe John Deere.
I have the same skidder, but no grapple. My TJ mechanic say that new ones are not available. Long, Long, Long gone. You need to find a used one. Ebay, craigslist, ect. I have been looking for years with no luck. HAVE FUN.
I downloaded the manual for our '86 240A from the John Deere website.
Really?? I'm gonna have to try that!
This is the one I purchased. It may fit your machine also.

I was able to purchase manuals for a 1978 Cat 518 and a 1973 John Deere 540A thru them. Great folks and great service and lots of other really cool stuff.
I just got a service manual (CD) and a operators manual (print) from www.johndeeretechinfo.com and I belive the CD was like $30ish and the operator deal was $15ish and it only took about a week to come in. You do need to sign up for the web site it's free and only takes a couple of minutes. We just print off a section when work is needed and put it in a 3 ring binder. Slowly printing out the manual, one problem at a time!
