Title: john deere 440B winch control
Post by: 350 cummins on February 01, 2017, 06:32:56 PM
i just purchased a jd 440b the previous owner said high range has not worked for 20 years which is alright for what i am doing unless someone knows if it is any easy fix but the winch control works fine to winch in or to hold but if you put the lever to where the detent holds it in the released position it does not work you have to pull it back just out of the detent to make the winch release.  does anyone know if there is an adjustment somewhere or does it need to be rebuilt.
thank you for any info on it

thanks snowstorm i checked the cable seems ok so i took the control off of the winch it is a rotary control disassembled it everything looked good so i replaced all of the o rings put it back on operated it with the cable off and still the same it will release the winch just before the control locks into the detents which makes it difficult to pull out the cable when you have to hold the control in that position or it goes back to the hold position because of the return spring . i think i will have to buy a new control
