Title: Wood-Mizer LT-10 with 14hp Electric Start
Post by: Slingshot on February 07, 2017, 03:55:33 PM

I put the Predator 14hp engine on my LT-10. Harbor Freight lists it as 13hp
in their store but receipt and paperwork I got with the engine says it is 14hp.
I had to do 2 mods to make it fit on the mill. One was the mounting plate.
The PTO shaft on the Predator was about one inch higher up than the Briggs
when sitting on the plate and raised the pulley too high for the band wheel belt
  system.

The mounting plate and drive belt....

I built a new mounting plate and put the engaging lever below the plate giving
room to lower the new plate by drilling the slider rod holes up higher on the
sides which lowered the top of the plate enough to bring the PTO shaft down
enough for the pulley to clear the saw blade....

New plate and engine mounted....

The 2nd mod was for the muffler which sat too far forward to clear the upper cross
beam when raising the saw head. I changed that by making some mounting plates
for the bolt mount to a one inch pipe with a double 45 degree bend...

Excellent retrofit looks like it left the factory that way.

Nice work, I guess that makes it an LT10Super!!!  Those engines are supposed to be pretty good.  I have the HF chainsaw sharpener and it works great, $27 with coupon.

SS,

Looks like a pretty robust little mill now. That first video looked like you had about maxed out the cut on that log. I can't tell how you load them but looks like you had your hands full getting that one on there.

Very impressive workmanship. I always have reservations about HF but in all honesty the items I have gotten from them have held up pretty well so far. I bought an electric 1/2" impact wrench from them and don't know how I ever got by without it.

Nice retrofit.  Looks great.

Somebody gave me on of those 13hp HF engines a while back.  I'm using it to drive a generator head and it's chugging along just fine.  Those are really quite a good value.  I'll be interested to see how yours does on saw duty.

  WV Sawmiller,
That maple did just about max out the mill. Here is what I use to load
   the bigger ones...

I sold the LT-30 just over a year ago and bought the LT-10. Still have my MF-135
with front end loader. At my age I was
ready to get away from sawing for others and just saw for myself and maybe
some for family. The LT-10 (super?) is a pretty robust little mill. Very satisfied
with it. And now with electric start!!!!.

The LT10 is a fantastic little mill and I had every intention of buying one.  I had my first job lined up before the purchase was made and the LT10 was too small to accommodate the logs so to stay within my budget I bought the used LT40.

Why did you change engines?

Nice upgrade.  And everything looks clean and neat.

Thank you all for the comments. And the reason for changing engines was
mainly for the electric start and I got 3-4 more HP. The 10hp Briggs worked great
and sawed anything I put on it, no trouble starting and ran smooth but I'm more
pleased with the mill knowing that it was possible to go to a little larger engine.
One of the other mills I've owned was a Norwood 2000 with a 13hp and it sawed
anything I put on it.

Did you use the same pulley or did you change that as well with the larger motor

And do you have any more pictures of your mod luckily I found your post before i started on my mill I bought a predator for my lt10 unknowing of needed mods... No biggy have most of it built. You had just barely enough pics for me to reference from, a few more would be nice tho. Thanks sean
