I picked up a nice 1 owner extremly well taken care of 1150E dozer, low hour machine and not a dent to be found on her...
I need to put a winch on her asap and was wondering if anyone can tell me what model winchs will work on this dozer.... I want to stay as enexspensive as I can so im even considering a hydrolic winch..
The military used a lot of these 1150E dozers and all theyres have the same Hydro winchs but I can't figure out what model it is they use...
Anyone got any guidance for me ?!..
As usual, any input is appreciated !!
There's 5x 1150E's for salvage on machinery trader, good possibility one has a winch. There is a 1150E on C.L in TN with a Hyster, I would call and try and buy it off the back cheap.
Broken Tractor LLC 800-909-7060 probably has one or many. Halsey Equipment in Mexico NY put alot of Deere winches on Case dozers, I would have to dig the # out but I know the adapter plates are around. For some reason ??? The OH-WV-KY-TN area I see winches / woods dozers in worn out shape bring big money. We watch the auctions and papers very closely, buy parts and attachments all over, you want to find a dealer / boneyard with the right winch in a limited logging dozer market, TX-OK-AZ, something they took off an oil field crawler, figure what your shipping is and haggle him down till he squeaks, right now the deals are out there.
most all that size around here still had the gearmatic 19-119 on them
Remember the 'least expensive' one can sometimes be a new winch with a warranty. New hydraulics with faster line speeds can make fast haul in, to lift productivity)
Can be like a lottery buying a used or semi used winch.

I need bargemonkey to find equipment for me (iron and women :D)
Be careful what you wish for, based on the information he's shared, he seems to have a knack for finding ones that aren't wound to tight. No offense intended BargeMonkey!
A lot of good info fellas !!!... I appreciate it !!.. a lot left for me to learn outside of the old gearmatics...
I'm gonna dig like hell this week and start surching as barge monkey suggested..
I appreciate to PDF manuals as well..
The Allied W5B is what I've been calling around looking for with no luck up untill now...
I can take my pick of 7 different JD4000 series winchs (t40) for $2,000 cash.... I wish I could make this winch work...
I admit I've picked some winners, I thought I was going to lose my shirt this summer and had to back out on a deal I'm still embarrassed about. I have weeks of free time while im on the boat to sit and research iron, parts, deals, kept alot of our older stuff going with used parts. We go to alot of auctions, I network with 3-4 guys hunting down stuff, I get alot of deals but you can go under quick if you haven't done your homework.

4000 is the way to go if you could. What do you have for holes on the back, PTO,hydraulic plumbing ? You might be able to make an adapter plate work, how much time do you want to invest ? Complete 4000 winch set ups, BOLT ON shape for G series are getting uncommon, H-J is hard to find but you see more of them down there,
I used to run an 1150B that had a gearmatic. It was a beast. The suspension was always breaking the crank arms. 20 pounds of Stulz manganese rod fixed that. :D
Bargemonkey,
I've always been told the John Deere 4000 series winch was bulletproof so if I can make it work in anyway I'm willing to invest the time and I can get one relatively cheap at only $2,000...
As of right now I only have the PTO sticking out of the back of the transmission covered by a cap...
It's got 8 bolt holes running vertically on each side of the transmission to mount too...
So I don't think it would be that hard to fab up an mounting bracket..
But could I make the PTO work with a John Deere 4000 winch?
I would have to look at our dozer to tell you exactly how it's plumbed, I know the 4000 on my 460 is only a couple hoses and a cable to the valve. Biggest problem with a winch like that is you want to make sure it's on there, plate, winch, I heard of guys snatching a winch off a machine before that wasn't mounted properly or been beaten on, I'm on the boat so I can't pull the books to see where stuff hooks to the trans / hydraulics. I would honestly call Delk, KD in OH, and I want to say it's Hunt ?? Tractor on the west coast. Someone may have been down this road already. I looked at the idea of putting a 4000 in my 440D and it would take to much work and probably break something. I know where a very nice 650G /winch sits with low hrs for honestly cheap money, all done, I haven't jumped because of my divorce but I've never seen another one with a winch /arch in decent shape this cheap.
